It's... Bad.
I watched it a while back. If you want to watch a Gary Stu anime you can do worse, but if you're expecting any sort of meaningful dramatic stakes past the point it becomes obvious the main character is basically IDDQD plus Power Overwhelming you'll be disappointed.
On that note, there's a lot of manga coming out these days with an RPG theme and a main character who somehow starts out at max level/overpowered/etc. It's weird how the manga zeitgeist moves in unison like that sometimes.

Also log horizon was the superior sword art by far. S1 was pretty good but S2 just kind of went meh.
SAO is the best man. You can watch a psychopathic jesus with black leather go around a virtual world watching people die as he actively refuses to help. Then he finds any stronger independent girl and breaks her down until she's a husk of her former self that cannot live without his attention.
At least it has good production values am i right!

Yeah I watched most of it too, but also gave up because of gary stu fight prowess, gary stu haram attraction (while having absolutely zero interest or perception of the haram whatsoever), and the incest overtones (that manga marriage plot, lol), After like the third time the guy dies and comes back to life in the middle of a fight it gets old.
...it also wore out it's welcome when the guy just goes and solves the "problem" of magical flight within a week, starting pretty much the instant after they mentioned it was impossible. Just, please.

What is "Gary Stu"? Mary Sue but for a male character?
that would make sense actually.
When I was 13 Kirito was borderline cringey but not quite, and I enjoyed SAO. Rewatched it with a friend later and a lot of the problems started to show pretty quickly. I think SAO like SnK has one of the most explosive, interesting starts to an anime which seriously hooks you in, but it tapers off really quickly. Of course I think SnK actually gets more interesting later on, whereas SAO just falls off a cliff.

Yea Gary Stu is just male Mary Sue. SnK is another that benefited from it's amazing visuals and soundtrack. When you watch it again you realize just how much of it is boring badly paced arcs. The hype moments are just so powerful that they distort the view of the show. I think it'd be fine if they fixed up the pacing and stopped the ridiculously cringey subplots.

I like the idea that the Tatsuya's harem is absolutely haram

I hate the phrase agree to disagree but if you didn't like the chuunin exam arc we won't see eye to eye on anime designed for 13 year old boys
my favourite
the anime not 13 year old boys

I mean, yeah, that annoyed me too but I appreciated the actual plot and stuff they had to do around that. Thought it was much better thought out than SAO was at least. Maybe I just prefer the world too.

srsly tho bois if you want a real anime you can watch hajime no ippo

I was always kinda partial to Holyland because IT ACTUALLY ENDS

First season of Log Horizon was great. Second season wasn't quite as good, largely due to pacing/focus. It spread itself too thin over several plot threads. Still a good series and I would live in the database any day.
My #1 anime to recommend right now is Mob Psycho 100.

Im rewatching Death Note with my brother, almost forgot how fucking good it is. L's theme song is so fucking awesome, whenever I want to feel smart I play that song and squat in my chair LOL

never actually watched it, just read the manga
almost always the OST is the only thing really missed

100+ posts unread in only a couple days, lets see what topic roared OT into activity again...
I'm maybe more surprised than I should be that it was weebing out and not something political or a hearthstone expansion or some game release I wasn't aware of.
Also Bleach definitely fell of a cliff but fight me if you think the Ichigo x Ulquiorra fight wasn't awesome(sure, filled with unexplainable bullshit the series had become known for by then, but still awesome). I think watching the Anime release of the series for that long was worth it just for that...
...and then became just as equally not worth it like immediately after with the way the fake city fight and the arc completed. Ugh.

Im gonna go ahead and say I didn't find Ichigo vs Ulquiorra fight all that amazing. The first Ichigo vs Byakuya is easily one of my favourite fights in all of anime though.
GOT spoilers + Show Spoiler +I was so fucking upset when it was revealed the Night King can shoot Lance Del Relampago

my favorite anime fights are probably in gungrave although i wish they were longer. Props to the end of cowboy bebop for copying John Woo during the finale though.
|
I need to finish Gungrave sometime.
In other news I went back and watched the first disc of Gundam Wing. It is troperiffic like nobody's business.
|
the only gundam show I ever tried watching I was bored completely out of my mind. I can't even remember which one it was. I just remember I was expecting giant robots and it seemed to be entirely talking.
