It's not the power supply in all likelihood because the power stays on when it crashes, just the monitors go dark and the hard drives keep spinning.
Just trying to avoid 'taking it in' and having some nerd tell me 'welp u fukt' after paying them 150$ Do you have another partition or drive you can boot from? That would require what, attempting to boot off the windows disk? Because I have another drive but it doesn't contain the startup files. I have to find my frigging windows disk regardless ugh. Haven't seen it in 7 years. This should be fun. Cant you just download the ISO from microsoft and make a boot disc? If only I had a computer to do that. Best bet does seem to be to find an alternative way to get the computer to boot up but without a copy of windows on my other drive I dunno how I'm gonna make that work, and I don't have a lot of time in my week to start fucking around and looking for one. Did you do the thing i posted? No. Why would that work? Edit: let me clarify. The BIOS recognizes the existence of all of my drives so that doesn't seem to be the issue. Please attempt. It's a stored memory thing. It'll detect as a "new" drive and might actually full boot to windows. IE Windows is fucking dumb some times. Appreciate the advice. Didn't do anything. Going to try booting up externally when I get the chance
And just got a text, friend is sick so no MM3 drafting for me

Iron Fist is just not getting better.

I heard it's bad and that it could've been expected given the director? I will be honest and say I rarely if ever check those details for Netflix originals because they tend to be really really good but maybe I should start now if dude can tank even a Marvel property.

Watching some BW again... did the ramps that go up to the bottom right always look like that? Because I don't remember them looking that bad.

I watched the first episode. Don't really get what Ketara is going on about. It was a bit slow and nothing happened but all this supposed racism wasn't there. The first person that "makes assumptions" is a black secretary. The girl tells him not to speak mandarin to her because she only knew a little as a child and instead speak Japanese or English. The shoes thing seems obvious nod to all the Buddhism he's been going on about. Buddhist monks traditionally don't wear shoes. He actively doesn't wear shoes he can get himself but as soon as the girl donates the pair he puts them on which again is traditional Buddhism.
Feel he's digging real deep to find these things. You can get offended or find racism in anything if that's what you want to find. That's not to say it'll be good.

But it wouldn't be a ketara post if it wasn't in some way complaining about how america is terrible these days
From what i've heard it's just pretty boring/slow, without any of the lighter elements the other shows had to keep it interesting in the downtime

I'm on episode 9 of the series. Going to cross the finish line, but I truly feel the show suffers from pretty much everything IF is doing, it being done already by 2 seasons of DD.

Buddhist monks do wear shoes, just sort of FYI.
In fact he sort of screws up on being "Buddhist" in the show regularly. Not wearing shoes for not much reason, wearing shoes during the few times it actually wouldn't be appropriate, using the word karma in weird ways that make him sound like he learned about it in San Diego, etc.

A customary google search implies that some more traditional forms of Buddhism did not and others did. There are like a million different ones who knows. They really aren't trying to say rural asia doesn't know about shoes... Idk Ketara you really reaching super hard to call it racist.
Reminds me of those crazy feminists.

I'm just gonna stop you right here dude.
I have a degree in Buddhist history. I've spent a total of about two years travelling in Buddhist countries, and have lived in several. I've been to well over 100 Buddhist cities both urban and rural. I've probably visited over 1000 Buddhist temples. I've worked for a year as a teacher in a rural Buddhist school teaching actual monks.
They wear shoes. They also have smartphones and watch Marvel movies.
That's kind of the point isn't it? The show DOES try to make the shoes thing a thing. Several characters ask him about his shoes. Once he actually finds a friend in New York, that's symbolized by her giving him shoes. They make it a point to have his feet on camera pretty often, and then stop when he puts shoes on. It's definitely kind of a thing they're doing.
And yet, Buddhist monks all over the world wear shoes. They take their shoes off when they go inside somebodies house, because that's customary all over east and southeast Asia. And yet once he has shoes he wears them inside the girls dojo, and goes so far as to give a speech about respecting the dojo to the students of the dojo who are not wearing shoes, while he wears shoes in the dojo.
It's just dumb. It's not direct overt racism, that's true. But as I'm watching it I just keep asking why did they do that? Why did they include that line? Why did they add this or that. There's all sorts of shit they're adding that doesn't advance the story or the characters, but does reinforce dumb stereotypes that shouldn't exist anymore.
|
So it's not racist but you didn't think it was accurately portraying something you care deeply about so you jumped the gun calling it something it wasn't. Just stop watching then. Doesn't appear they trying to be disrespectful, if they got stuff wrong then just need to work on it.
It's like how almost 99% of time my country is involved in a movie or tv series it's extremely poorly done.
|
Isn't pointlessly reinforcing untrue negative stereotypes about other cultures / peoples racism, regardless of whether or not it's direct?
I really should just stop watching it. I liked the other three shows so much though. It's depressing.
To be clear though, if an individual were to go around making those sorts of assumptions, I wouldn't be like OMG YOU'RE SO RACIST, because I wouldn't expect everybody to be acutely aware of that kind of shit.
But a TV company with a budget, yeah I kind of do expect them to have a consultant or something who examines what they're doing and points it out. I'm 4 episodes in and it doesn't seem like little minor inconsistencies, it really seems overarching through the entire show and embedded into the narrative. I do expect them to be a bit sensitive to that kind of thing. I feel like the only way for them to not realize it is if they just don't care about the demographic that they're working with, and I do think that is a form of racism through deliberate ignorance.
|
Being inaccurate isn't racist. Ignorant, sure. Poorly done, sure. Offensive, sure. Unfortunate and reinforcing stereotypes, sure. I understand your frustration. It's really shitty when media gets this stuff horribly wrong.
But racism is a different beast. Doesn't sound like they actively hate and are trying harm bhudists. When you call it racist it hurts your credibility and twists the meaning of racism. And it desensitizes people to it.
|
I suppose it depends on whether or not you see reinforcing those stereotypes as negative/harmful/damaging to the group it's disparaging.
But I get that. It's definitely less KKK and more just "Did you guys really not at any point in filming this stop and examine what you were doing?"
|
Probably not. Don't get my geologist friends started on how every movie gets basic geology wrong.
This does seem to be a bit culturally ignorant though. More so than most things. Probably figured most people wouldn't care that much.

Or anything to do with hacking/programming.

There's a lot of bitchy articles on the internet about them casting the main guy as white, which doesn't really bother me. It's a white guy in the comic.
But I think if they'd done a better job with the show, maybe that wouldn't be surfacing so much as a reason for people being upset.

People are whining about it on the internet because people love jumping on supposed whitewashing. To them either he has eastern traditions surrounding him so he "should" be Asian and if he isn't, then it's appropriation.
|
Right, but I don't think people got that upset about Doctor Strange? Which is pretty similar in terms of its origin story, IE arrogant white guy goes to Asia, beats all the Asians at their own game and comes back with superpowers.
It's also jarring because this kind of thing is something Marvel has been traditionally very good at. People were impressed with how well Luke Cage portrayed Harlem, and with how well Jessica Jones portrayed what it's like to have PTSD.
So it's just weird. I'm probably gonna keep watching it because I'm invested in Marvel shit at this point, but like, ugh. It's the first thing Marvel has done that I've really been like "wow this is just bad."

Just curious, how accurate is Mr. Robot then?
I myself don't watch it, but I've heard many good things, and I've never asked any of my programming friends if they do.
