What the... you guys don't work till the 20th? Our holidays are like after last friday before Christmas to first monday after the new year included. That makes it between 10 and 17 days (6 and 9 if you remove week-ends and 24th/1st).

The US has the fewest days off out of any developed country at this point I believe - even lower than Japan and S. Korea, famed workaholic countries.

And no, but I can get the confusion when I say "our holidays" for "the school holidays in our country", I'm in the same situation as you myself (previous company took a week from our off days to close between Christmas and New Year though).

It's pretty ridiculous. My company does a fairly good job at stressing work-life balance, but I know it's not something I'll find in a lot of places.
