Golden and Sinister did a great job, and the audio was fantastic since they didn't try some finicky setup on the couch. Not that the commentary in other games(usually when it's just a runner who is great at it) isn't sometimes good, but that was a level above. It sounded like high level tennis commentary or something

Also how much people are donating for. Who are these people that are donating $500 at a time?!

There's probably a lot of smaller donations coming in, not being read on stream because during intense runs the reader only gets a chance to drop a few in and likes to drop the big ones. That said, big donations have been a lot more common this year, thus the vastly increased donation amount.

People are also likely to donate more to causes they care greatly about, especially if it's a community they support. People who have had loved ones die from cancer and are speedrunners/gamers are probably more likely to donate a lot to AGDQ than the average shmo is to give to a Breast Cancer run.

I believe it was at 500,000 initially, and I wondered how they'd get there. The last day has taught me I was wrong, and should never question whoever makes the decisions about goal amount.

The last day has taught me I was wrong, and should never question whoever makes the decisions about goal amount. I thought 500k sounded about right actually, because I thought the event reached a level of notoriety and exposure last year that would prevent it from absolutely eclipsing itself within just another year. Yet, here we are, another year where the goal is absolutely destroyed with time to spare in the event, and still some of the highest/most popular donation incentives to go(500k was broken with Kill/Save the animal war still barely touched, the RPG file names still being bid on, and Cosmo's run still to come). Edit: That run was so tense oh my god.

The growth of Twitter and Reddit has helped, along with the garbage internet circle that is "news" sites that just mine twitter/reddit, to increase exposure Even if we assume hardcore gamers don't have large disposable incomes (perhaps due to the time investment of gaming), there would be plenty of casuals who are interested enough to get hooked into this marathon event
