Making breakfast the night before and eating on the trip is nice for one hour+ travels, especially when it's pitch black when you get up >.< Used to have 1:30 hour travel time to a job a while back, starting at 7.

Bikes are cool though. Takes me the same time to bike to school as to take the sub'. Shower upon arrival takes a toll OTOH.

Realistically, they suck too -expensive, inefficient, unreliable etc. NYC has the best and it's frequently overwhelmed. Compare that to the transit system in most major Euro cities is just... sad. It's a clear case where a collective expenditure (public trans) gives major value to everyone if there's a commitment to it. Even people who still drive exclusively benefit (fewer other cars = less traffic, more parking etc etc). Unfortunately it might require the T-word and that is un-American.

If you have a good distance to travel and something will clear most of it.. combine the two. Like when I lived in Oregon.. (I lived in Eugene) Whenever I would go up to Portland to visit friends I would just take my bike along with me on the train. The train was so much cheaper than trying to drive it. But the bike saves your hide when you make it up there and don't have that far to go. So pretty much you can cut out transfers of any trip to half the places around Portland. Which is really nice. Because barring you just being super lazy, you can beat a bus to any metro station.. and hop on to go all the way across town... and then ride the other 8 miles (Which takes all of maby 30 mins tops.) Where I'm at currently I still do this (Might stop when/if it gets super cold but since it's Indiana I have my doubts.) I just bike to work... Because catching the bus is a 40 minute commitment. My bike is like 10-12. Also saves a ton of gas. Screw driving >:O (Says the guy with a 80's vehicle with terrible emission standards and mileage!)
