TBH people cite the low consistency of tournament wins in TCGs as an indicator of them being very random and low skill, but it's actually more indicative of a different quality of TCGs--that typically two deck types that are in a vacuum strong decks can have very lopsided matchups against one another. It's hard to be consistent past top 8s in MtG because you have to play the same deck the entire tournament and the deck that gets you to the top 8 is not always the best deck to actually win the tournament.

There's so much variance involved in the game and tournament structure that a couple highly placed finishes is viewed as either incredible skill or miraculous luck - being 50/50 in either isn't enough. This is reflected in the reward structure. Two high finishes and you're *this* close to getting the red carpet.

Please do recall though that the system is set up to promote repeat finishes, because that's essential to it's marketing value. If you get a couple good placements wizards practically begs you to do well going forward. Until then, you're out of luck. A much greater factor in final placement than most people appreciate is value from past tournament rewards, in other words, designed inertia.

1) YES. Llamaserver is now open to hosting Dom4 MP games. it begins, the end of my free time
2) In celebration, I've gotten off my ass and have actually started writing my Dom4 LP/Tutorial. Since the new patch has left my TC saves' batreps abit wonky, I'll just put out the Eriu/Ireland LP first. Finished the first part already, will post tomorrow morning.
EDIT: Errr, today. Basically whenever I wake up and have time to format it for posting.

I disappoint in you Cixah.

I'm mostly disappointed in my missplay game 3. I should have won that game easily because the way it plays out I maintain board control entirely if that Dark Iron Dwarf sticks. WIth his hand at 2 cards both of which being leeroy and Argent I would have been able to go on the offensive and get some decent damage in and most likely turn that game around entirely. You make one mistake all tournament and it's the one that you lose with .
As far as top 8's are considered, people sight them because they are important. Top 8 in most tournaments is usually very prize heavy, with in Texas PTQs of 215-300 people on any given format, you have top 8s where you just played 9-10 rounds of swiss and each player is walking away with a Box or more, plus the potential ticket to the PT. I have several ptq top 8s along with 2 different wins when Stoneforge and Jace weren't banned in every format under the sun, and while consistency is good. Winning is way better.
No one remembers 8th, or anything between it and 2nd. You remember the guy who took your seat at the PT.

I wasn't belittle the relevance of a top8, just putting a point of reference in for people not accustomed to the mtg tournament culture.

The Argus Shell decks are just more consistent and faster than the minis. Time to play with the same cards as everyone else I guess. You placed top4 though right? Any repeat top4 from other people? Only person from the last top8 to top 8 again. Imo, that's a better stat than anything, shows consistency. plus top 4 ain't nothing to snuff off. Gj man.
If you ain't first, your last.
Step it up 6ah

Speaking of dominion. Just played with you on that map.
You acted confused when I said TL hates dominion. Not a bad game btw.

It does kill my laning phase in regular SR, though.

I've been reading a lot about bitcoin lately... Seems to me so many people just see bitcoin as an investment that they can convert into real $$$. My only gripe with it.
I did a bit of mining too but yeah, a lil GPU can do next to nothing compared to the behemoths some people have invested in.
Different topic: Twitch.tv is down for me. Only website that is down too.... weird.

You've been busy! I'm still playing SP vs normal AI. Impossible is a little scary and I never liked playing against resource boosted AIs anyways. Liking atlantis at the moment, EA is fun to thug and LA is fun to bless (no thugs quite yet).
I starting reading your LP, I'll have to finish it later, too late tonight. Looks good so far tho.

I feel so bad about the people who actually think and treat Bitcoin as a currency.
For the people who jumped on bitcoin early, congratulations, you guys get to make free money off of the suckers who come on later. :o

I starting reading your LP, I'll have to finish it later, too late tonight. Looks good so far tho. LA Atlantis is a powerhouse. Great paths, great troops (magic weapons on pretty much all your troops while not being as sucky as Caelum's troops), access to water (when your only opposition is R'lyeh, and while the insanity that the Dreamlands gives in dominion is annoying as frak, you have insanity-immune commanders in your underwater fort-recruitment), and both Amphibious+Sailing gives you either decent utility or extreme map mobility, depending on the map. Also, the Mother Hydra hero...she'll also give you access to random-event Living Pillars.
Atlantis, of the water nations, generally does better, given their full amphibious nature. Pelagia and EA R'lyeh get entirely gimped by their largely aquatic nature. The UW nations will probably be the target of a focused patch, when K.O scrounges up the time from teaching to produce the content. Them or flying nations (LA Caelum halp).
In the process of screenshoting my first year of gameplay, after that will probably slow down updates to 6-4 turns each. I'm mostly done with the game, though cleanup will take another year or two.

Guess what happened? Bitcoin still around. I mean, I guess when you say it enough times it eventually becomes true.
