I work for a Tech Solutions company in the Farm Credit industry. Basically - farmers need loans to run their farms. They don't go to traditional banks because they have different payment schedule needs because of growing seasons. There are federally funded banks separately kept for agriculture. The farmers go to the nearest farm credit association and get their loans through there. My company does all the tech solutions/support for those associations. I'm a cube monkey lol. I'm a Business Analyst in the Business Intelligence department.

I probably could have done this job straight out of high school. Management doesn't seem to understand that it would be much better to hire someone from community college with experience in auto repair over someone with an engineering degree. *shrug*

Granted you know better than me, but it looks like a pretty damn good fit haha. I mean, my job utilizes a basic understanding of business, I guess. But nowhere near what I learned while getting my degree. I mostly utilize SAP products (currently in the middle of a huge Desktop Intelligence conversion process so my department can upgrade BusinessObjects for our customers). The other half of my department is developers. When I was interning here, I split my time between the BA and dev teams. As the summer went on, I got better at report analysis/building/fixing (and I had to be honest - I enjoy programming, but I'm pretty shit at it). The BA team is a bit more customer facing, which isn't my favorite, but there are only a select group of association users that we directly work with, and most of them are pretty competent. But yeah, my company is more suited for people who went the Comp Sci route, which I kinda wish I did, but it doesn't really matter at this point lol.

Business/math going into business analyst is like as close as you can get to having a job that's directly applicable without getting into some of the more specialized degrees...

They're a qualification that tell an employer the candidate has certain basic competencies. I agree (for the most part). Degrees are often just used as a sign to employers that you are capable of making a several year commitment. My displeasure for the American education system aside... And I chose Business/Math because I knew it was widely versatile and I would be able to utilize it in a lot of settings. Hindsight 20/20 though, I wish I did more with computer science.

I'm interning at a tech company right now and I don't even have a degree yet, turns out if you write your resume well and be not awkward at the interview you'll do fine. They didn't even know what year I was in when I got here lol Nice. Yeah, there are a lot of people in our generation who just have no idea how to interact in an office/work setting. Good interpersonal skills go a long way. As my dad always told me - it's not what you know, it's who you know. More accurately, it's who knows you.

Anonymity begets confrontation. edit: You just came from the MTGO thread. Lol - YOU CAN'T HIDE FROM ME

In a couple months I'll hopefully be a lawyer. Oh well things change. Edit: Speaking of MTGO, why does white suck so much in M14 draft?

FTFY Last night I drafted a Lili of the Dark Realms, Nightmare, Xathrid necromancer, Diabolic Tutor though. That was all sorts of hilarious.
