Okay, PC troubleshooting.
My computer will randomly flash to a black screen for a few seconds at random intervals. Sometimes it's 5 minutes, sometimes it's hours. It seems to be happening more and more frequently lately though. Rarely it will hang on the black screen and if I unplug and plug the HDMI cable back into my monitor it will be fixed.
I had this issue a few months ago but I unplugged the HDMI cable and plugged it back in and everything seemed to be fine afterwards.
I tried updating the drivers for my graphics card but it seemed to have no effect. Thoughts on next steps?

Is the GPU fan still working properly? How long has this been happening? If it's more recent with the warmer weather things could be overheating.
edit - for that matter, do you have enough fans and are all of them working?

Really only started getting bad in the last two weeks or so. My fans sound like they are working. I have the CPU one and one that's just inside the case. CoreTemp seems to say everything is at a decent temperature but idk how reliable that actually is.

Switched the cord out and it hasn't happened again so here's to hoping it's just a bum cord. A lot easier to replace than computer parts.

Sounds like the cord to me, its unlikely anything GPU/software side if you can get it to come back by just unplugging the HDMI and still have power to the system. Check the busted cable for splits, especially if you have it running and sharp 90 degree angles ect.

If unplugging and replugging the cord fixes it it sounds to me like a bad cord or a bad port. If it doesn't happen again after changing the cord then you know which.

Man that made me feel like a dick in a hurry. Parents asked me for money for a legit issue, which normally would result in me begrudgingly helping them and them paying me back at some point. Now instead they're without a car until friday. How miserable.
