That Garchomp doesn't have Outrage, but I can probably work with Dragon Claw. I will probably try to get a Gengar. I already have a Gastly but it's so absurd that it's almost certainly hacked, so I will probably try to breed one myself.

Fights rely a lot on projectiles (most of which have little recoil, or recoil you can cancel with stuff like super jumps), but there's a "meter" bar consisting on 5 orbs, most projectiles attacks consume one orb to use, and they replenish gradually after not throwing projectiles for a shorter while. So if you spam too much you're out of meter and have to wait a few seconds to get more than one orb back (and your opponent can pressure) or you throw stuff as soon as you have one orb, but you got no pressure. That's how they prevent projectile spam from afar to dominate. You can also "phase" through all projectiles by dashing (but you're still open to melee attacks so you can't recklessly dash to close in). Another mechanic I didn't mention is the decks. You can modify your moveset (your specials) mid-fight by activating card that either enhance (if it's the current move for its input) or replace (if its input is currently used by another move) moves, input by input. I think there are 4 inputs per character, with 2 to 3 different moves per input? It's customisable basically. 20 cards deck shuffled, and you "unlock" cards the same way you build up meter (hit, or in a lesser measure get hit), being able to hold up to 5 cards at a time, and you can rotate them (FIFO style) to choose which one to activate with the button, allowing baits and mindgames. Supers are also cards, so you don't always have them available, and you've got a limited number of uses for each super because of this (in actual gameplay you rarely get to use them all anyway). Since some B'n'B combos rely on some specific supers, you just do more basic combos or poke till you get the wanted card, and if you're already at 5 you've got to activate one to free up a space. It's not so much "deck building" as it is customisation of moveset and options (since you're never required to replace a move with another if you don't want to) and then you go with it during gameplay depending on the situation and match-up.

Scip has apparently played it quite a lot before, so he filled me in on the basics. Movement, attacks and specials were simple enough, but we didn't really know any combos, and were just using the basic decks. It's fun though ^^

It's also very fluid with all the dashes, flight, double jumps for some characters (Aya is queen of mobility but her projectiles have weird trajectories) and you've got aerial guard so I didn't feel punished too hard, was nice when you're a scrub. The wiki has a bunch of B'n'B combos, but since you can A 3-4 times in succession for an auto "combo" you can easily go in, hit a normal or two, then standing A 2-3 times into special.
