again not literally, but actually close to it
. Still gotta wait for the glasses themselves tho.
This makes me cringe so much I see shit like this all the time and it drives me nuts
It's just you get used to it, and it never "felt" that bad until the doc started trying different lenses and it was like oh my god what I have been doing. I'm just awful in general about getting check-ups overall, inertia OP.
That's because our bodies tend to change so slowly we don't notice it.
Which is why you're supposed to get checked regularly.
This is actually something I really have to work on though before becoming a professional. I have to stop being so judgy---not that I'd ever do it specifically to a patient but I can't help but think these things.
My gf is in public health grad school right now and one of the assignments is a semester-long health habit to follow as rigidily as possible to help future health professionals understand why MAYBE I CAN'T EVEN TAKE 15 MINUTES A DAY TO DO A THING OKAY LIFE IS HARD.
According to her experiences with doctors/doctor-y classmates, the fact that you're even thinking about "being less judgey" puts you way ahead of the norm.

It's not that I couldn't do something casual, but it's not really what I'm looking for right now. I'm not really into being a rebound guy.

Haha it's really easy to tell if you need when doing lecture type activities. Man I tried using contacts but I spend 45 minutes with the doctor and we still couldn't put them in . Think I'm just going to try go for surgery one day.

Also I literally don't know this feeling, I've worn glasses since the age of 7 or 8, and first I fucking hated them, but eventually I started hating the squinting and headaches more. Boggled my mind to see my adult 26 year old friend at the time go through the same motions as my child self, laughed a lot too tho.

I could totally help you with that. I'm real good at CL fits :D
And yeah one of the most common things people who didn't realize they needed correction speak about after the fact is that trees have leaves and aren't just green blobs. I'm not sure how the mental disconnect works considering even nearsighted people must have been exposed to the existence of leaves and seen them up close, but yeah.
And asmo, you'd be very surprised what people can do with poor/low vision.

Don't you get eye tests for drivers in America?
That was how I found out I was near sighted I think. Only use them for driving, working is fine.

I'm just not very good at trying to put things into my eye so I kept blinking perma. I'm pretty blind without my glasses so rather content with just wearing them but when my eyes stabilize I should be able to look at corrective surgery. Just not stabilizing fast enough. I could do it now I think but from what I read it sounds like a bit of a waste to do it too early.
When I was a bit shy about glasses but could still see decently I would always try position myself in such a way that it wasn't noticeable that I had poor vision. I'm guessing people with poor vision that don't' know they have subconsciously do that same things.

I think I was around 10. You just don't realize you're deficient until someone notices you not being able to distinguish lettering from a distance. For the most part you can get by ok with blurs. I could drive ok even though my eyesight is pretty bad but I'd be nervous and wouldn't want to do any precise maneuvering. (I just proved this to my wife the other day )

Oakleys are awesome, imo
I don't wear sunglasses anymore tho, I got Transition lenses on these glasses and that's worked for me for a while. Though it is annoying when you want to take pictures outside or when quickly coming in to a darkened building, but otherwise it's great.
I got my glasses just before freshman year of college. I didn't really realize I needed them until I got lost several times on an exhausting trip with a friend because I couldn't read the signs properly. I have a fairly minor astigmatism, so I don't need them for everything, but I generally just wear them all day at work since I have to stare at a computer screen for a long time and frequently look at things from varying distances.
Everyone in my family has worse vision than I do, so I was destined to need them eventually. I'm definitely due for a check up, and I'm sure my prescription isn't as accurate as it should be anymore.

Maui Jim/Ray Ban imo, but there are a ton of brands out there that all do the same thing. From a health perspective, you just want to make sure they're UV protective (they almost all are) and they wrap around/frame your eyes decently as your eyes can still receive sun damage from the side.
From a fashion/style perspective I dunno shit about that so go with what looks good :D

This is very true. There are people with a specific nerve/eye muscle weakness who will naturally tilt their head in a specific direction to prevent the onset of double vision. Most of them won't realize they do it.

Yes.
When you get your license/get it renewed.
Not afterwards (generally).
There may or may not be a flaw in this system.
Everything license related is state by state, but I couldn't pass my vision exam without my glasses even though I can see comfortably enough to not wear them barely ever in daily life. I can read signs from a good distance, can see objects in the road, deer on the side of the road, etc all very fine, but couldn't pass the vision exam because I couldn't read all of the letters in the 2nd to last row with my left eye. Just throwing in some perspective on how the 'omg you drove' thing can sound.

Wow they tested individual eyes oO, when I went to renew mine last year there was a machine you look into that shows the letter M then you tell the guy which way the bottom is facing. It also had flashing lights out of the corner of your eyes and had to tell which side flashed. I couldn't really do the last couple even with glasses but it seemed fine. I merely asked because I have known of people that found out through an eye test for drivers that they need glasses. Personally feel the way the licenses are handled here(Possibly same there) is a joke. It doesn't test your ability to actually drive and there's no real follow up after the fact. Cars are so incredibly dangerous yet we treat them as toys. It disgusts me a little.
