Well, when your education system is designed to reward schools with more money for meeting certain (rather arbitrary and meaningless) metrics such as test scores and attendance rate, you see the disconnect between solid education theory and its application in public education.
For one specific example, let's look at the student-teacher ratio. Studies show that students learn better in smaller classes. So naturally, people take this idea and fuck it all up. Yes, we need more teachers teaching smaller classes. No, we don't need them teaching the same way they would have taught a bigger class.
The reason small classes are more effective is because you can pay more attention to each individual student and help them learn more effectively. It isn't enough to just hire more teachers (which in and of itself is a whole other can of worms) and track kids into smaller batches (again, another topic worthy of lengthy consideration). The whole idea of mass produced education must be changed.

I honestly hate a lot of the weed culture, but I enjoy it otherwise. At least personally I like it way more then alcohol, and I've barely drank since me and buddies started weed like 6 years ago.

I have never smoked a thing, ever.
I'm not adverse to the concept of marijuana, but I'm also just not very interested, and at the end of the day the reason I never try it is probably because it costs money and if I'm going to spend money on something I put into my body I'd prefer a good steak.
|
Steak is good too, and I mean, it's all in limits, I have like, 4-6 joints a week split with friends when I'm hanging with them. I remember a friend of mine back in high school went on a trip to Israel, and one of the guys in the tour group said he did 6 joints a day. I wouldn't ever want to be that into it lol.

I've been clean for a good 5-6 months, but I had a good hit of a ghetto water bong last weekend, and holy fuuuuck has my tolerance gone back to high school level.
I've noticed a ton of people making the switch not only from cigarettes to vapes, but doing the same for weed too. Maybe it has to do with it not staying in the system as long? IDK, those don't really do it for me.

Seeing just the differences between when I was in school and what my young siblings are experiencing is pretty infuriating.

While I enjoy both, I most definitely prefer getting high to drinking. I'm still in control of my motor skills, remember everything, and have just as much fun. I also can eat a brownie and then go outside or go to an event or a friend's house (no driving though, be safe kids!) and feel far more comfortable. When I'm drunk and taking to someone sober or need to be sober I have to focus on it. When I'm high I just...keep being me without having to think and enjoying so much more.

The vape and edibles are just so much healthier. Less smell too if you need to be out and about. I've heard people say that they don't work as well and I don't really get that because vapes are far more efficient. But I can see if you might hit a bong/joint/blunt harder because you can feel it way more or see the smoke so it is more visible to you. Or something. Ionno, vapes wreck me ha.

I can't really say anything about schooling as I went to one of the more expensive schools in Africa so it's prob a lot different than most people's schooling here. What I can talk about is university! I took some "workshop" type courses where we would redo a whole semesters work in 3 weeks of solid 4 hours blocks but with only 20-30 of us instead of the normal 100+. It's really eye opening just how much more you learn when it's in that intimate environment where the lecturer is there to answer any little question and can tailor the examples to the issues of the people. While I get this is hard to really achieve at a university as the number of individuals that know the work is a lot small than primary education and not to mention the number of people that can actually teach is even lower, I think this is definitely something that could be achieved for primary education if we just put more effort/money into it.
The biggest change I noticed from school to university(Engineering degree) is that school always focused on achieving the answer at all costs where as in my degree it was always about understanding what you are doing. The answer itself wasn't worth nearly as many marks as the process you used to get to that answer. It's a completely different line of thinking. One I hope I don't have to be the sole person instilling in my children one day.

See this is the sort of conversation that I want to participate in, but now I'm sort of self conscious of my online identity.
And yet I allow myself to be recorded playing DND.... Ugh I dunno what I want
I'm tired and sick
Leave me alone

relevant quote recently was like "when students cheat on tests its because the school system values grades more than knowledge" which is the core of the issue. people arnt going to school to learn they are going to pass. just like the guy mentioned in this thread recently who couldn't program in a fourth year programming course and his solution was bullshit through it instead of actually learning how. the school system itself values grades because they have to appear to be good so you get inflated marks and stupid people leaving school with negligible useful knowledge.

Honestly I think our school system is broken. I think it needs a complete overhaul because I feel like there are so many things wrong with it.

Leave me alone If you want, I could leak your real name onto the internet. It'd make you feel better about your online identity because I'd be creating a bigger problem with leaking your real identity!
I'm helping!

Um, holy shit. Wizards have finally done it.
DotP 2016 will be called Magic: origins and will be completely free to play apparently. Haven't been able to watch the trailer but supposedly 100% of content will be earnable. They're trying to compete with HS.
