I also prefer erring on the side of potential mana flooding to potential lack of mana. if you have 5 cards and 1 mana in your hand you have 18/16 in the deck so thats a 50/50ish shot. if you have 5 mana in hand and 1 card you have 22/12 in deck so you are far more likely to solve the problem in the next few turns. in constructed though i kinda don't count. i like building cheap fun decks rather than play for the expensive shit. in innistrad i played a gutter grime deck (and would beat top decks with it occasionally, which is all i wanted anyway) Not mulling far enough is arguably one of the most common misplays for inexperienced players. Like, it just *feels* so bad to mull to 4 even when it's actually the right play, so newbies end up keeping a ton of hands they actually shouldn't which is why the game feels decided by mana flood/screw. Also in constructed building shit mana bases is probably one of the most common problems at all levels of play. | ||

There's no exact science to shipping your hand, but generally people ask themselves several questions about their hand to help them decide whether to keep or ship. If your answer to any of these questions isn't satisfactory, mulligan your hand.
