I haven't seen the Raid2, but I've seen Raid: Redemption. I kinda liked the movie, but one feeling that I had there a few times, mainly in the fight against the Mad Dog:

that I felt that the fights are way too fucking long. If I remember it correctly, this was like a reunification of the 2 brothers, and I get that it's important for the story of both of those characters that their meeting up and teaming up is really fucking bloody and violent, but jesus 8 minutes christ. By the second half all the feels just dried up and I just kept thinking about how much fucking HP does the Mad Dog have left.

I haven't watched Raid2, and I understand there is probably some context to the fight that'd get me emotionally involved, but I again got the vibe from it that it's way too long. it's 6:30 minutes long without any breaks to reflect on the attitudes and feelings on the combatants (the matrix video I linked is 5 minutes, but like half of it is talking, staring or in some other way expressing their feelings, so it doesn't feel nearly as long), and the fights feels even more long with the "tis just a flash wound" trope where they get cut by the knives all the time but it doesn't seem to do aynthing but spill some blood (I didn't watch too too closely, but I saw only 1 scene where the guy grabbed his knee after it got cut, although he fought just fine 30 seconds prior to that). The actors are skilled though, and the cuts are done pretty well, I don't think there's any question about that, but it's not a fight scene that'd get me want to watch a movie.

TL.Secret would be amazing, Zai, PPY, KKY, S4, and I guess RTZ. Would be the best team TL has ever had.

I've seen neither Raid movie, but from what I remember, isn't Mad Dog the final boss? So it would make sense that it would be an epic fight. But I get what you're saying.

On the other hand, adrenaline is one hell of a drug. In a fight like that with highly skilled martial artists, I could see it lasting a while (you mentioned UFC before). Granted, time moves really slowly in a fight - I remember 2 minute periods in wrestling or a 4-8 minute jiu jitsu rolling sesh feeling like foreeevvvveeeeerrrrrrrrrrr.

But I'm really easy to please with mindless action movies, especially with skilled, even hyperbolic, fighting.

The first few frames and my first thought is "why the fuck do they let each other get so close and look like they're about to kiss more than fight with their hands like that", doesn't start well Soniv.

The fight scene in "They live" is... weird. Usually when there's action and I have time to proactively think about it (and it's not because I intended to do so at the beginning) it's because they drop the ball (either I rythm falls off, or they get so goofy my suspension breaks).
There it's just because it's so sluggish, and it has all these pauses in the action, things calm down, you tell yourself that it's over and wonder how it'll evolve, and then it starts again. And it's not like they have great choregraphy or martial moves or anything, they're just two regular people going at it, getting exhausted in 3 hits and broken in a single fall on hard pavement, but they keep getting up again because they don't want to lose.
I don't believe it's even about winning, but rather not admit that the other is right. And it's sluggish and pathetic and they're slow and panting and you've got all the time in the world to think while you watch it. But it's done on purpose.

I recall that scene fom the movie more than the "kick ass and chew bubblegum" one, which is much more famous.

wtf

thats the key point of why people watch movies and like stories in general

its about emotions you get from watching

sure there are more high flown literature and movies that are supposed to make you think a lore more than feel but they tend to be less popular

also you'll notice neo fights in a more sophisticated wavy style while agent smith expresses power and single mindedness in that he just grabs arms and punches straight, its supposed to emphasize his lack of creativity as a computer program

ther post 2:50 part is neo copyingagent smith to show that he's learning he can do the same thing agent smith does its just a matter of your capability in the matrix or w/e

The thing about UFC is that there are shit ton of rules. Martial arts move are like shitty action films with dancing which there is nothing wrong with. But common hand to hand combat is silly in any day where knives and other weapons are way stronger.

The ultimate example of why fight choreography isn't super important is Star Wars. The original trilogy basically doesn't have any, but all the lightsaber fights are super important and memorable because they're there to tell a story and frame the emotions and motivations of the characters. The prequels are super duper choreographed but 1) suffer from everything explained in the Jackie Chan video and 2) aren't designed to really help the story. Even the pivotal fight between Obiwan and Anakin at the end of the trilogy doesn't work because the fight itself doesn't tell the story, it's not until the end of the fight that anything actually happens to advance anything.

The Matrix Sequels also suffered from this a lot. Fights that interrupt rather than continue the story.

hardly a shit ton of rules
like what no groin kicks no soccer kicks no downward elbow strikes and gloves

its also not legal to have knives and other weapons while you can be effectively a deadly weapon with just your fists

you can't be liek jumped on by some black guy and be like BRB GONNA GET MY NUNCHUCKS LEL

YES, you're right, Mad Dog turns out to be the final fight of the movie, but the thing is, it's the reunification of the brothers that's the important thing there. The Mad Dog, as the name implies, is just the most trusted and most powerful and most brutal henchman of the main bad guy IIRC, so it's not really that satisfying to watch him lose. He hasn't done anything except fulfill orders and maybe tortured some people here and there, not sure. Anyway, prolonging the fight doesn't make you feel suspense or exacerbate the feels, because it's not really about beating the Mad Dog anyway, but about both the feelings of compassion and fraternity between the brothers, and their (eventually unresolvable) conflicts.

I dunno about all the feeling stuff, but one of my favorite fight scenes of all time is

But then later we get all storytelling and emotional with

The documentary on these fight scenes are both amazing. Neither Cary Elwes nor Mandy Patinkin had swordfighting experience, so they just watched a shitton of fencers and then trained with a choreographers day and night until they made one of the coolest (and amusing) fight scenes in movie history.

And the second one... well, it's a sad story

I actually enjoyed the original trilogy's fights much more because they felt more "believable" to me than the heavily dancing choregraphy shit they do in the new one where I spend half my time wondering "Is is really necessary to make that wide move that looks pretty but opens his back for almost a second to his close-quarter opponent?"

I know, there are different fighting styles in the lore and one of them relies on gyratory force and stuff (and then we can nitpick about why a fucking laser would need gyratory force when it cuts through anything on contact and you'll reply that it's because it's clashing with another laser and all that, whatever), but it still looks silly and artificial.
Pirates of the Caribbean's sword fights didn't really impress me either (I only saw the first movie), at least the one between Jack Sparrow and Will at the start. It's so fake and artificial in their movements it makes you cringe.

I just saying in the movies they are supposed to kill each other.

As much as i dislike the original starwars their fightning scenes are dumber than the rest of the movies.
