It's normally a bad card, but certain decks specialising in Artifacts can use Mishra's Workshop to play a Slash Panther out of nowhere to kill your opponent's Jace, the Wallet Sculptor. It's literally only a scenario that ever matters in Vintage because of how warped the format is. I mean, you can legitimately play a deck called Manaless Dredge where only 4 of your lands actually generate any mana at all, but you never actually use them to make mana. (I'm serious.) You never use the Splice part of Desperate Ritual. For a combo deck you need to be generating as much mana from a starting point as low as possible. In order to Splice not only do you need another Arcane spell (which most of the time you won't) but you also need to have the mana to play that spell AND the splice cost at the same time. And if you're trying to combo off, say, 4 mana that's basically not do-able. The entire point of fast mana is to play lots of cards that give you a net positive amount of mana, play some draw cards to reload your hand, play more fast mana, and then keep doing that until you have enough mana and have found your kill condition to win the game. | ||
