It's a simulation of a trading card game, like a picture of a turd, without the possible benefits! No unit models, no cool attack animations, it's final fantasy 1 with shittier graphics! Stop liking it right now! Hey, I like Final Fantasy 1. Except for ineffectives on overkills. But still.

Maybe I'm wrong but that'd be my primary concern.

You find out that you need to tweak your team a little bit, maybe your Blissey needs an egg move or Wish instead of what it has now and boom there goes another 12-20 hours to breed a new one and level it to lvl100. With TCG I assume you realize your deck needs a bit of adjusting and then you have to buy new cards and be like fuck... sigh. Maybe I'm wrong but that'd be my primary concern. Well, what a lot of people will do is run proxies before buying new cards to test them. Groups of friends (including my own) play test allllll the time against each other. If they want to try some cards, they put proxies in their deck (usually a print out of the card slipped into the sleeve in front of another, irrelevant card). This stems some of the requirement when figuring out if you need something else. But yes, it is very similar in that vein. Except, instead of using 12-20 hours to level, you can just use a couple hours' pay to get the cards you need =P

Casual or bad/mediocre players pay an excruciating price per card used. I would only recommend playing the game if A) you are rich B) you would like to play casually, in which case your cards come dear but you won't buy many C) you are convinced you both want to and will become really good and that this will be worth an all consuming time investment. There will be social capital among some smart white nerds to show for it, that's about it though.

If you're good, networking makes having cards at specific times almost free (someone who probably trades/deals will straight up spot you a deck for the day). It's a big part of the tournament scene. You get your own cards from drafting which isn't horribly inefficient if you win a lot. Casual or bad/mediocre players pay an excruciating price per card used. Knifefighting was pretty different too, back in 16th century or so holding a knife underhand was the standard way, and the techniques were not just striking ones, but also some wrestling ones. Using a knife. wtf o.o. But that's how people fought when they didn't know any better.
