Like, if you put real 13 year olds in that situation, that is how they would actually behave. I originally saw Eva when I was 14 and in and out of psychiatrists offices all the time, and I remember even then thinking that Shinji was just about the best cartoon representation of a depressed person I'd ever seen. And I think that's also the exact reason why lots of people don't like the show. They want idealistic heroes for characters in a robot show, not realistic people with realistic problems. If I rewatch it now I don't like it as much anymore, and I'm pretty sure it's probably because I'm not depressed anymore and can no longer relate as well to the characters.

Very similar to my experience. Eva is brilliant in that way.

Actually I never really minded Shinji.. I didn't care for all the bullshit plot lines, the terrible ending(yeah great shinji you conquered your depression or maybe? We don't really know) and everyone in that show was an asshole. Literally no one in that show is likable except for Shinji's pals. Then the end of eva happened and it's essentially a poster child of "Art for art's sake isn't always a good thing" Fucking Orange juice..

Especially if the end of the world is going on, that's not exactly going to bring out the best in people.

I've already explained why I don't like the show. It's not that the characters are realistic, but when I see a show about giant fucking monsters and robots, I care more about that then what a 13 year old boy is whining about. At the very least if there was some even-handedness it would have been better imo, but by far most of the show is dedicated to that, interspersed with weird happy-go-lucky japanese typical cartoon show shit. I dunno I've ranted enough about it in the past, it's possible I'd like the newer versions more if they give the mythos they have created more of a fair shot.

Leveling can either be really fun or really boring depending on rather or not you like linear questing or not. If you're the kinda guy who just runs around looking at stuff and stumbling onto things then GW2 is probly your kind of thing. If you enjoy massive pvp battles in DAOC rip off maps then you might be into GW2. If you're looking for Raiding tiered endgame pve then gw2 isn't for you. I will point out it's like 10$ this weekend or some insanely cheap price and it really is a one time buy so if you're curious and got the cash I'd try it out. I played for ages and quit only due to my guild moving on to FF14. Of course by quit I mean I've not logged in for ages but my toon is still in good gear and perfectly able to hop back in.

It's both, learn2EvaLore. + Show Spoiler + Shinji reset the world in End of Eva and the new movies are the reset. They allude to that in the new movies like, really really heavily. They also allude that it's happened like, five times.
