Even though the gameplay in both games is kind of controversial, IMO the SNES Emblems have the best setting/characters.
Thracia probably needs a remake the most given the lack of a functional fan translation.

I think considering how most people I've talked to really like having the casual mode in Awakening, I'm not entirely sure if Thracia would be that well received. That is, people who I've talked that are new to the series love casual mode, where me and my grizzled friends like permanent death. Also I would argue that Awakening was sort of a spiritual successor to Genealogy. Awakening was a spiritual successor to a lot of the titles, given that it was a "Best hits" collections. I, for one, am ready for an original Fire Emblem game.

Awakening isn't really a successor to Genealogy in any way other than the inheritance mechanic. There are a lot of design choices made in Genealogy (non-shared inventory, larger maps where you can deploy everyone, smaller cast of characters where each class only gets 1-2 characters in it) that were not reproduced in any other game in the series.

You raise good points that I had not considered. There are plenty of mechanics in Genealogy that were not present in Awakening. Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll have some of those mechanics in the new one. @Wave: I think this is the point where you start to understand what the non-Hearthstone players feel like when you guys talk about Hearthstone. And Hearthstone isn't just seasonal. It's for life.

Though TBH, I would like to see the capture mechanic from Thracia return someday. Honestly the inclusion of Constitution/weight capacity in the GBA Emblems always seemed stupid to me because the interesting part of that mechanic only really made sense in the context of Thracia's capture mechanics (where they partially dictate your ability to capture units)--without those, they end up being purely an annoyance.

Granted my sample size of this occurring is only one, so I'm not sure that means anything haha.

I know for my friend, Fire Emblem 7 was the first one he played and then he went back and played Genealogy and Tharacia and he considers them to be some of the best in the series. I don't think Genealogy is controversial at all, the vast majority of Fire Emblem fans consider it to be one of the best in the series. Thracia is a lot more controversial but I'm personally fond of it.

I mean, from what I've seen there's 2 groups. There's the people who played all the old Emblems early on and like Genealogy best because there are a ton of things that newer Emblems haven't matched it on. And there's newer fans who dislike it because a ton of the things it does differently are an annoyance if you've gotten used to the Emblem formula that became established post-Thracia. I personally disliked Thracia a lot at first, and I feel it takes a lot of time to get going, which, given the lack of a proper translation, many people aren't willing to invest. Lategame in Thracia is kind of just absolutely unlike any other Emblem game, and is where I think the game really starts to shine once you've got the full cast.

I played that one and thoroughly enjoyed it. I unfortunately didn't get to do a lot of talking and backstory because I was playing it on my phone in Lesotho. I tried to conserve as much battery power as possible and kinda went through it as quick as possible. I am actually going to buy a 3DS purely for the FE games.
