This Liquid Heroes of the Storm thing bothers me, a lot, on multiple levels, but one of which is unique to only TL. The administrative staff of TL have made posts about their thoughts on eSports, and picking up teams into the organization, and Heroes just doesn't seem to align with that AT ALL, IN ANY WAY, especially in the context of this Blizzcon marketing tournament inviting 4 MGOs, none of which had a team prior to the announcement.

I want to think of a way to thoroughly describe what bothers me about this without sounding like I am just hating on Heroes the way people hated on SC2 and League and Dota(to a lesser extent), but it's difficult because all I want to say right now is 'Fuck you.' It feels like a complete sellout move. This may be the first time that I flat out say I don't believe Nazgul's post, or at the least think he's bending the narrative to make it feel less ridiculous. Like, Blizzard getting the other orgs to pickup teams for Blizzcon isn't a big deal because EG/Dig/Fnatic have teams for everything, so why the fuck not. But Team Liquid? Really? It just seems wrong.

My post is not about being salty that TL has no League team- I actually like Nazgul's stated stance on acquiring new teams under the TL banner- it's about them seemingly going against their own precedent because Blizzard wanted their name on a marketing event(that's how it feels, maybe we'll get details that state otherwise).

So other games need their communities to be well vetted, and have all sorts of content creation and writers ready for TL to pick up a team, but Heroes just needs Blizzard to say "Hey we need you guys to help market this for us thanks." Apparently it's all good though because Sheth plays and GMarshall made a post about a league/tournament that was played.

Edit: To be clear I don't want an apology or anything. I want an explanation or details that inform us as (mostly) long term TLers that this isn't what it appears to be. This looks dumb on the surface.

Well, we have a post ready to go up regarding the existing pro-teams, but it got delayed because of the announcement, but the players on Liquid are all good, and if rumor is to be believed EG is straight up picking up Snowflake which is probably the second best team that exists right now, so the competition won't be a farce. As to tl "selling out", the only reason we picked up a heroes team, is because the opportunity aligned with sheth really liking the game, I don't know how much of the details I'm allowed to/supposed to get into and I don't know them all, but the reason we picked up a team for blizzcon is because people who were super passionate about the game lined up with blizzard offering the opportunity.

Trust me, I get the sourness, it feels a little like TL is picking the game because its blizzard, like some kind of corporate nepotism, but its really the result of an alignment of events (like for one, I imagine cost wise it was a fraction of what picking up a new dota/lol team would cost, although I'm not privy to any of the details), that turned into TL picking up a team.

Are all the most competitive teams going to be at Blizzcon? No. Although Snowflake and Liquid being there make it 2/4 good teams, the liquid team will also be competing in as many events as they can that aren't blizzcon. There are some ongoing leagues, like Kings of the Storm, but logically everything is winding up in preparation for blizzcon.

Basically, since i'm here, if I can answer any concerns, I will, but this was a bit of a "one time opportunity" and its one Nazgul took, after a lot of deliberation. We've had many opportunities we haven't taken over the years, so if we're taking this one, its clearly because we think there's something here.
