Depends on how illegal. There's the normal trading of music/movies/pdfs/etc that fall under copyright, there's the occasional breach of security (Hey guys I hacked this site/this person's account), but it's never felony-level stuff. Well, almost never.

Pretty much. UC Gundam is, in general, about telling a story, while Gundam sidestories are typically all about selling robots.
That's why Gundam Build Fighters is so amazing, because they realized if they wanted to sell the most robots they should actually make a show about selling robots. Suddenly they're honest about it and suddenly it's AWESOME.

In fact Zeta was worse. At least in SEED Strike and Aegis were totally destroyed in a duel at the crux of the story. How Kamilegot the Zeta gundam was a head scratcher.

No it's not. He designed it and was the best AEUG pilot. They talk about how they're building it in about episode 6 and it's another 20 episodes before it's actually finished.
Actually Quattro was probably the best AEUG pilot, but he had his own fancy suit and he got his first anyway.
I do think that Camille helping to design the Zeta Gundam is one thing in Zeta that's pretty silly, that's for sure.
