Zeta doesn't have the cartoon war problem. The AEUG in Zeta is well explained, it's a space colonists terrorist organization and it behaves like a terrorist organization and does a lot of awful stuff. The big difference between Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam is that even though it's roughly the same war both times, in the first show Earth is the protagonists and in the second show Space is the protagonists. It's actually pretty cool how they show both sides of the story.

UC is just as guilty. How M particle is produced is really not that important compared to how funnels operates.

SEED has funnels too, and only a couple people can operate them, and it's never explained the way it is in UC Gundam.

UC definitely focuses on Newtypes a lot. 1979 Zeta ZZ CCA unicorn all feature heavily on Newtypes and cyber Newtypes.

In SEED it's never explained, and that's a critical difference between the two shows. They don't make an attempt to explain things.

What's critical for me is that this was essentially the entire point of the original series. Tomino created Gundam specifically with the concept of making a robot show that was realistic instead of fantastic, and thereby created the "Real Robot" genre of anime. It's been copied a lot since then but when it was made in 1979 it was a totally original work. SEED took the name and the overarching plot, but didn't use that "Real Robot" aspect that was the underlying point of the whole thing, which is why I don't like making a direct comparison between the two and call them different sorts of show.

But I don't want to get into a nitpicky Gundam argument because that could last weeks. http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/DRAGOON_system It requires someone with high spatial awareness. It is not controlled telekinetically and theoretically anyone can operate them. It is merely a coincident that Rau and Mu prefer this kind of systems - because they are skilled pilots who can manage this complicated system.

It is merely a coincident that Rau and Mu prefer this kind of systems - because they are skilled pilots who can manage this complicated system. If you want to get into a serious Gundam argument, one thing that you're going to find is that a lot of the stuff in gundam.wikia.com is blatantly wrong. I actually once had to get on their case because a bunch of stuff I wrote for a UC fanfiction sort of thing was completely plagiarized as canon content for a bunch of their pages, and had to go around getting it removed. It's clearly stated in the show that Mu/Rau are the ONLY PEOPLE who can operate remote weapons systems. They even explain it again later by saying these two are clones of each other and special somehow. Then it's later retconned so that a bunch of people can do it as they start giving the system to more mecha in Destiny. And like, the whole remote weapons thing in SEED can be taken as a theme of the whole "realism" point. Why does SEED have giant robots, and for that matter remote weapons, in the first place? UC Gundam makes an attempt to explain why the whole thing is a giant robot fetish and not just unmanned drones shooting at each other at extreme distances. They talk about how minovsky particles (bullshit) prevent most forms of electronic communication, forcing soldiers to actually fight each other face to face in dogfights the way they did in WWII (because UC Gundam is a gigantic WWII ripoff). They explain how funnels are special because they're controlled by these magic psychic signals instead of electronic ones. Within their own framework and the scifi concepts they've provided, everything they're doing makes a pretty good deal of logical sense. In SEED it's just giant robots right from the start. They don't try to explain why it's giant robots and not planes or drones or tanks, and on top of that they can't use the explanation made for the UC Gundam universe specifically because it's contradictory to their own remote weapons technology. Again, the point is not to say that UC Gundam is perfect, but that it makes an attempt where the spinoff does not, and this is a critical difference between the two.
