As to everyone who gave me advice, thank you. I mean it. You guys probably saved me from doing something that my heart wasn't really into and you gave me some good ideas what I need to do. For better or for worse, some of you may have influenced my future. So again, I'd to thank all who gave me advice. You guys don't know how much it means to me. Programming isn't for everyone, but it's not horrible. If you're interested, there's a lot of materials online to make your first program or script. Are you still in school, Frudgey? I'm still in school. I have two years before I finish, but I'd like to think about what comes after school now, instead of later when it might be too late. I'm studying mathematics right now but I've taken a couple of courses in computer programming. The two summer intern jobs I've taken at the University has also let me do some programming, which is nice.
I wasn't sure if a Master's was for me after getting a bachelors. I've had my doubts, but you guys (and talking to my professor) have more or less confirmed for me that I shouldn't be looking into a Masters. Of course I have some time to think about this still, and I'll see how I feel after getting my degree. As it stands though, I don't have a strong desire to get a Masters (in mathematics) so I don't think it will. It also helps me know that you guys are successful and many of you don't have Masters degrees. I always kind of thought that a Masters was something that I needed in order to do well in this world. After talking to a couple of people, this certainly isn't the case. Again, I still have some time to think about this.
As for programming specifically, from what little I've done with it, I love it. I love working with code and seeing it do... well, anything. For me it's like taking something I understand (Math) and putting it into Lego form. I just love messing around with code and seeing what it does. I would be super passionate about being a better coder, so I'm going to look into doing more coding in my spare time. I might be overly optimistic about programming here, but I can't help it. Working with code excites me, even though I know that sometimes it is very frustrating to deal with if you write it incorrectly. But wrestling with code for hours, or even days, and finally getting it right...
Priceless.

Who knows though, anything can happen. Of course, me being the naive young man that I am, believes that life only jades you if you let it. Not to say that I'll never experience hardship, but I'd like to think that keeping a positive attitude will help me get over some of life's hurdles.

In general I think you should only get your Master's if you like the academia part of your major, not to get ahead in a career.
The only exception I can think of would be engineering, since many fields in advanced engineering require very specific knowledge that requires higher level degrees.

And programming courses won't teach you about programming all day, there's a healthy dose of other sciences (at least here, stochastics was one of my favourite classes) but also databases, and generic conception and design paradigms, so you can learn, not how to write code that work, but how to conceive good code that does what you want it to do in an elegant manner. (That's the part a bunch of people don't keep when they enter business life, from what I'm having to maintain... )

I recently realized that the age difference between myself and my boss (and coincidentally between my boss and my dad) is the as the age difference between myself and my youngest brother (14 years). Now that's scary.

I realized a girl I was chatting to in hopes of maybe dating is the same age as my once baby cousin. Pretty freaking weird realizing she's 18 now. Wonder if that's what it's like to have a sister grow up on you. They never stop being a little kid in your eyes.
