How many of you guys have a Master's Degree? What was the experience like? Why did you get your Master's? Why didn't you get a Masters's? Also, how many of you are Code Monkeys? That is, how many of you do coding for a job? I know there are a few of you, but I'd like to hear from you. How'd you get the job? Anything you guys would recommend if I wanted to pursue the avenue of being a Code Monkey? Any tips that would make me more qualified? If you guys could be brutally honest with me that'd be fantastic. And I know that there are better places to ask this question, but frankly I'm looking for all of the feedback that I can get. This is my future that we're talking about so I want all the advice I can get. Thanks! Let me tell you a story about life as a developer. As part of training we have to go through these certifications that are basically school exercises. I've been putting off one of mine because I've had Real Development work to do for the pass 3 months pushing out big projects that are basically the grown up version of these training exercises. Today I finally decided to get started on mine because it affects my eligibility for pay raises. The first part is to do an ETL of some fake database from our weird proprietary DBMS to PL/SQL. Easy. My ETL fails. I start to debug it and I hit a really weird error regarding a NOLINE error in KB_SQL query validation. NOLINE means that a routine is trying to run and it can't find the functions, basically a run-time syntax error for when doing dynamic function calls that can't be discovered by the compiler. Turns out that the training environment is broken. The people running it have no idea what they're doing. So I fix the training environment for them. Basically someone tried to give me a test but the test was broken so I fixed their test so now I can take it. s u g o i

That was a good class. | ||

The wording is a bit off because it makes him seem child-like when it wasn't the case, but the way he looked at me made me think of a young boy looking at a "grown-up", or even a pupil from Junior High looking at the "grown-ups" in High School over the playground. How few years there was between him and I didn't matter, there was like a barrier. In a way it felt like I wasn't allowed to consider myself a youth/young man anymore. I was now a working adult, member of society and all that. Felt weird. (I've also not done much since 17 years old up till around 23-24, these 5-6 years could feel like half of my life at that point when considering how far memories go and maturity and all that. So I guess I'm a bit complexed with the fact that I didn't live out my youth and that I don't want to leave this period yet, with all the regrets that would entail. I'm not exactly mature emotionally, and so these signs that nope, it's gone, I've screwed up and now I'm an adult whether I like it or not, tend to hit home. TL;DR don't be like me, kids, be like Shelke, minus the rudeness o/*) + Show Spoiler + * I'd have said "be like Wave, minus the health o/" but sometimes you gotta remember about not being inappropriate, even in good spirits.

It'll be salty, but hilarious probably. Except for us, it'll just be frustrating. Trying to fix issues with this shitty client...
