being a prick is an objective thing so I don't see why I should be apologetic about it. I've had a good argument with jimmic and he somewhat convinced me on the matter of being polite or whatever. The most resounding thing i get from nearly everyone here whenever I argue is "There's no point arguing with you"
to me it just says "I can't win the argument so i'll get go ad hominem haha euro trash"
This is really funny considering a lot of your arguments boil down to "I don't understand what boundaries or politeness levels are are so i'll get go ad hominem american pansies". You're right. There is no arguing with you. That's why I haven't done it in a while, I just report and move on like I do with any other troll on TL. I definitely go ad hominem but never exclusively. I think it might be a subconcious thing where everyone used to just ignore me if I made a good argument but if I threw it an incisive comment they would reply. It's an internet thing, because IRL it's an active process so you don't need to incite people to respond to you just to get any discussion going. It's not that I don't understand politeness it's just it's an objective choice and you can dislike someone for being impolite but it shouldn't be used as leverage in an argument "I won't argue with you because you're being an asshole". That and silly PC things like not being able to say certain words in an environment that's so informal. I'm also interested in your definition of a troll. I mean it's your right to ignore everything I say but your justification is suspect. I play this game a lot more than nearly everyone here so if I was a troll in the sense of just invading a forum to piss people off with little effort it would horribly ineffective. So, you're abrasive and rude because you want more replies? That's... kinda terrible. If you say something that doesn't garner a response, oh well, move on. If you need to act out to get attention, then you're frankly acting like a child - I don't particularly mean that as an insult, I mean literally that is the behavior of a spoiled child. And that is pretty much my definition of a troll. If you're doing things and saying things that you know are going to be argumentative and more or less insulting just because you like the attention it gives you, then you're a troll. It doesn't even matter if you're right in a given argument - when you act like an smug child who "won" an argument because everyone was too annoyed with him to continue talking, does it really matter? I mean jeez, it's no better than those right-wing pundits who think yelling over opposition makes them right. And fundamentally that's what it boils down to. I've said it before, I enjoy having discussions and even arguments, but not with everyone. And when it comes to people like you, who think that you can't be "beaten" because you're not afraid to pull punches and will talk as rash as you like, then it's not enjoyable and frankly it just makes me stop caring about whatever it is you're saying. So yeah. You get all that attention but no one gives a shit about your point because they're too focused on your behavior. I guess that's good if you just want to be replied to. Hell, you got me to reply, so good on you mate. I mean, I'm way more abrasive and rude with other eurotrashers in skype, except its not abrasive and rude because everyone is like that and rather than specifically trying to be like that It's what I am naturally and it's a matter of reining that in. It's not about getting attention it's about getting someone who's making an argument I find terrible to defend it, usually they don't care. I often learn a lot from them even If I still consider myself right I still find areas where the other guy has a point etc. who think that you can't be "beaten" because you're not afraid to pull punches and will talk as rash as you like, then it's not enjoyable and frankly it just makes me stop caring about whatever it is you're saying.
I don't understand what you mean here. An argument is a purely intellectual undertaking and how rash you are should have no impact except to make the other guy forget his rationality which is certainly not my goal. Then why post like that? Sure, we all shitpost around here, and we like to laugh at being assholes from time to time, but when you're having an actual discussion or (proper) argument, then what is the point in pushing people's buttons and treating them like they're idiots when you can get your point across with half as many words and 100% less starting shit like this? Look, honestly I think you're at least a fairly intelligent individual. You're a good player, you do occasionally make good discussions like we are right now, and you can be very entertaining when the time is right. And I really would like to hold the respect for you that so many other people around here seem to have for you, but it can be pretty hard with the way you act sometimes. And you probably don't give a fuck about my respect (as most people don't), but I don't think that this is an unpopular opinion. Of course, Scip is another story. The thing is it's not that I plan to push peoples buttons or whatever. I post quickly and spend most of my time thinking about what I didn't like about his post and how to counter his points rather than about how to not hurt this guys feelings. If I am being disrespectful at least he can earn it by defending his argument or conceding that he was wrong. They appear disrespectful in the first place by brazenly making statements about this champ beating that or whatever and not only are they wrong but they cite evidence as like 1 game they played. I mean what's the point of spending my time being polite and trying to get people to like me. It's a internet forum, fair enough if you try to get people to like you more in real life because they directly impact you. The main point of a forum is to talk about things so not only would trying to be nicer be extra effort and is not really my personality it would also be counter-productive I'll start by saying I don't follow the LoL GD thread anymore so I don't know about arguments in there. It's not about tiptoeing around other people's feelings, but it's really not that hard to hold a discussion without pushing buttons. Look, we're doing it right now, and you're not even breaking a sweat. At least, I hope not. Liking people is important on an internet forum, though. Respect is a big part of it. And while you can get respect by being good at games, you're not going to keep it if no one wants to discuss things with you. You could literally take the objectively correct position in 100% of the discussions you take part in, but few people will ever consider your opinion valid if you present it in such a way that they don't want to continue talking about it. You said that you say inflammitory things so people won't just skip over your (admittedly good, occasionally) advice: I think it might be a subconcious thing where everyone used to just ignore me if I made a good argument but if I threw it an incisive comment they would reply. But is it better to be noticed if the only reason people are replying at all is to tell you to not be a jerk? At that point, your point is forgotten and ignored anyway. It seems counter-intuitive to what you're trying to do. If people are not going to listen to an intelligent, decent post because they don't want to hear your advice, they're not going to want to hear it when you call them names or use slurs to garner attention. They're not going to want to be helped either way, so all that's happening is that you're making a worse reputation for yourself in the meantime. And that kinda sucks, because from what I remember in LoL GD you usually were right about a lot of things (not everything, mind you, but a good number of them). But the only thing about your posts that sticks out in my mind is how you used to stir shit up every time you thought someone was wrong. People don't notice the quiet rain eroding their house, but they'll pay attention to the wrecking ball hurtling through their window. A) Someone comes to your door, collecting money for a charity drive to help kids with cancer have presents for the holidays. You wave them off and ignore them. You're in the wrong for not donating to charity (you heartless bastard), but they're polite and leave you be. You forget about them in a couple minutes, even though they were doing the right thing.
B) That same person comes to your door, but this time when you wave them off, they call you a stupid cunt and throw a brick through your window. Now they have your undivided attention and you won't soon forget them, but you're not likely to learn more about their charity or donate. No, you're more focused on the fact that they insulted you and broke your window.
Is B better than A because the person going door to door got noticed? I mean, attention was given, but that doesn't make it good.

Better example: A) Someone comes to your door, collecting money for a charity drive to help kids with cancer have presents for the holidays.
I made no implication of which is "better", only that one garners more attention than the other (which you agree with).

You're right. There is no arguing with you. That's why I haven't done it in a while, I just report and move on like I do with any other troll on TL. I definitely go ad hominem but never exclusively. It's not really like that. I don't play devil's advocate for the sake of it but If I lean toward the other side I'll make more extreme statements that I can safely back up because its easier than beating around the bush and making an alaric post.

Might need to rethink a strategy and take a bit more risks. You can either use DLC, grind 1 exp at a time, use the Lunatic+ Bow Knight strategy, abd/or just play very carefully and slowly make your way through the game abusing RNG as you go. The way you word it it sounds more tedious than fun, even to someone looking for something challenging. Not sure if that's the intent, though. In Fire Emblem Awakening you only really play Lunatic and Lunatic+ because you're a masochist. The power you get from the pair-up system, customisable skills and potentially infinite grinding is crazy so these modes are "balanced out" with really low exp gain and the AI gets really broken skills like Dragonskin, Luna+, Vantage+, etc just to compete against you.
That's not to say you can't treat it as some really grand strategy about how to actually beat the base game without infinite grinding and massive RNG abuse. (That's how the Bow Knight strategy was born btw and it's very clever.) But for the most part Lunatic and Lunatic+ are statements of how much time you're prepared to invest, and then how good your fundamentals are in knowing how to position and stuff rather than some super strategy challenge.
If you're truly looking for a challenge, you want to play the DLC. The real test of skill is clearing Apotheosis, not campaign mode.

It's not about people listening to my advice, it's about defending their argument so I can see if they really knew anything interesting. I don't want people to go HURRDURR GREAT TIPS TEUT CAN WE SUCK YOUR DICK AGAIN I just want pricexizor to explain exactly why support warwick makes any sense I mean I don't try to push buttons but it's very hard to be polite if someone's like hurrudurr give everyone guns for a safer world don't fear teh criminals Show nested quote +On July 30 2014 05:56 mordek wrote:On July 30 2014 05:22 Slayer91 wrote:On July 30 2014 04:45 mordek wrote: Out of personal curiosity, are you an ENTP teut? I don't play devil's advocate for the sake of it but If I lean toward the other side I'll make more extreme statements that I can safely back up because its easier than beating around the bush and making an alaric post. I guess I can understand that. I don't particularly agree with it, but if there's actually a method to your madness toxicity, then I get where you're coming from. Well, in the academic sense, anyway.

Could you elaborate what you mean by trolling. If you mean "she is a satirist" then it's actually borderline fascist to argue against her right to be one. if you mean she ruins games or whatever thats I mean its arguable but the fact that she is consistent is enough for me to think its okay.

being a prick is an objective thing so I don't see why I should be apologetic about it.
Well it's just your get very emotional over this kind of shit. I don't know why you had 3 months of sulking and snidey comments before this though LOL
I guess if you don't like someone because of the way he argues not arguing is a decent solution.

I'd like to think that we all magically met and became best friends and over the course of time while not everyone saw eye to eye, there were jabs thrown at each other but being the buddies that we are everyone just brushed it off. Time and time again it would happen but nothing ever came from it. Then this morning happened.... This is like the first big fight between the group, the final straw dropped and people in the group are just letting loose their angry and resentment towards each other that has been building up for quite some time.

Having discussions and arguments is generally healthy in a community, and I see nothing wrong with the one that occurred earlier.
