Please. This isn't a fight at all. Yall exaggerate this stuff like crazy. Any normal group of people will have conflicting view of things, and discussing them is a lot better than trying to pretend these differences do not exist. It's not a real argument/fight unless someone rage quits anyways.

My opinion was disagreed with, so I elaborated why I think it's embarrassing to the gaming community. I'm not sure what you're expecting of me. Could you elaborate what you mean by trolling. Sure! At least, I can try to convey it from what I've come across. I'll preface it with the fact that I haven't watched nearly as much of her as I'm assuming you guys have - these are basically first impression things. I mean, I'll take it from the most obvious thing (which is prevalent here) - there is the camp of people who are "in on it" (the viewers that like her and enjoying the "trolling" nature of it) and the camp of people who don't get it and are effectively the "trollees". The community itself about the stream probably bothers me more than the content of her stream. It's all done to get a rise out of a segment of people. And I suppose that is also a mechanic of satire, but I find this to lean more towards trolling rather than pure satire. I know that during one of the few times I've watched, she did something really poorly, chat erupted, and she said something to the effect of "guys, I'm a serious girl gamer" etc etc. My RL friends also enjoy her stream and frequently post clips or quote her in skype chat, and they're all to the same effect - highly sarcastic comments meant to get a rise out of people (or to entertain people, for those that are her fans). Again, I see it more as blatant trolling than satire - I don't see it achieving anything, it's creating an idea of "oh whatever, I can have fun and do whatever I want as long as I can convince people (or myself) it's ok because I'm just doing it jokingly", which then reverberates and gets echoed and copied elsewhere in the community. Show nested quote +If you mean "she is a satirist" then it's actually borderline fascist to argue against her right to be one. Well that's a little extreme, I've never argued against her right to stream however she wants. When I said "I hate that it's a thing", I meant "I hate that there's enough support behind it for it to be popular" not "grr I wish I could shut this down because I disagree with it". Show nested quote +if you mean she ruins games or whatever thats I mean its arguable but the fact that she is consistent is enough for me to think its okay. I haven't watched enough to actually know if/how she ruins games and the consistency behind it. As a general rule, I dislike people that dick around in ranked games just for fun because ranked should be tryhard (that's kinda the point, isn't it?). Gonna address a few other points you made in a longer post without quoting cuz I'm lazy: @why the hyperbole didn't apply - I said scip was being defensive because he escalated the tone of the argument, not because he simply disagreed with me. I quoted and bolded it before, so you know what I was addressing. Judging from later comments you've made with Req, you didn't see his comment as unusual, so it may have just gone unnoticed by you. Comparing my opinion of kaceytron's stream and the question of black rights seems a bit silly and over the top. @: Show nested quote +What I mean is if everyone held sonivs opinion we could get twitch to bar kaceytrons stream, because everyone would agree that it is a bad thing for gaming. As I said above, I'm not advocating for a shut down of her stream, that would be dumb. I do wish that the gaming community was more mature, but that seems a bit of a pipe dream lol Show nested quote +On July 30 2014 03:31 Shelke14 wrote: Who shit in your guy's cornflakes this morning. I think you're looking at it in a strange way. The idea ISN'T to get a rise out of people but as with all satire the point is to show the absurdities of the things it's portraying. The fact that people don't realize it's a joke stream is just depressing that people can be so dumb.
Thing is the people who watch it and don't realize and explode when she makes a bad play, are the same people who flock to the "legit" girl gamer streams who are still terrible and interacting with stream but like silver/gold players or whatever.
This is like the whole #cancelcolbert thing. "Why are you attacking a person making a satirical attack on Dan Sneider's racism rather than attacking Dan Sneider's racism?"
It's not about "anything I do is OK because I'm doing it jokingly" but rather "I'm emulating a specific behaviour in a way that shows the folly of the other people doing it seriously".
Anyway, nobody is being forced to watch that stream, if they get pissed off it's their own fault for watching it, and their own stupidity for not realizing the intention of the stream. Just like someone going to a comedy show and getting offended at everything.

You're right. There is no arguing with you. That's why I haven't done it in a while, I just report and move on like I do with any other troll on TL. I definitely go ad hominem but never exclusively. I think it might be a subconcious thing where everyone used to just ignore me if I made a good argument but if I threw it an incisive comment they would reply. It's an internet thing, because IRL it's an active process so you don't need to incite people to respond to you just to get any discussion going. It's not that I don't understand politeness it's just it's an objective choice and you can dislike someone for being impolite but it shouldn't be used as leverage in an argument "I won't argue with you because you're being an asshole". That and silly PC things like not being able to say certain words in an environment that's so informal. I'm also interested in your definition of a troll. I mean it's your right to ignore everything I say but your justification is suspect. I play this game a lot more than nearly everyone here so if I was a troll in the sense of just invading a forum to piss people off with little effort it would horribly ineffective. So, you're abrasive and rude because you want more replies? That's... kinda terrible. If you say something that doesn't garner a response, oh well, move on. If you need to act out to get attention, then you're frankly acting like a child - I don't particularly mean that as an insult, I mean literally that is the behavior of a spoiled child. And that is pretty much my definition of a troll. If you're doing things and saying things that you know are going to be argumentative and more or less insulting just because you like the attention it gives you, then you're a troll. It doesn't even matter if you're right in a given argument - when you act like an smug child who "won" an argument because everyone was too annoyed with him to continue talking, does it really matter? I mean jeez, it's no better than those right-wing pundits who think yelling over opposition makes them right. And fundamentally that's what it boils down to. I've said it before, I enjoy having discussions and even arguments, but not with everyone. And when it comes to people like you, who think that you can't be "beaten" because you're not afraid to pull punches and will talk as rash as you like, then it's not enjoyable and frankly it just makes me stop caring about whatever it is you're saying. So yeah. You get all that attention but no one gives a shit about your point because they're too focused on your behavior. I guess that's good if you just want to be replied to. Hell, you got me to reply, so good on you mate. I mean, I'm way more abrasive and rude with other eurotrashers in skype, except its not abrasive and rude because everyone is like that and rather than specifically trying to be like that It's what I am naturally and it's a matter of reining that in. It's not about getting attention it's about getting someone who's making an argument I find terrible to defend it, usually they don't care. I often learn a lot from them even If I still consider myself right I still find areas where the other guy has a point etc. who think that you can't be "beaten" because you're not afraid to pull punches and will talk as rash as you like, then it's not enjoyable and frankly it just makes me stop caring about whatever it is you're saying.
I don't understand what you mean here. An argument is a purely intellectual undertaking and how rash you are should have no impact except to make the other guy forget his rationality which is certainly not my goal. Then why post like that? Sure, we all shitpost around here, and we like to laugh at being assholes from time to time, but when you're having an actual discussion or (proper) argument, then what is the point in pushing people's buttons and treating them like they're idiots when you can get your point across with half as many words and 100% less starting shit like this? Look, honestly I think you're at least a fairly intelligent individual. You're a good player, you do occasionally make good discussions like we are right now, and you can be very entertaining when the time is right. And I really would like to hold the respect for you that so many other people around here seem to have for you, but it can be pretty hard with the way you act sometimes. And you probably don't give a fuck about my respect (as most people don't), but I don't think that this is an unpopular opinion. Of course, Scip is another story. The thing is it's not that I plan to push peoples buttons or whatever. I post quickly and spend most of my time thinking about what I didn't like about his post and how to counter his points rather than about how to not hurt this guys feelings. If I am being disrespectful at least he can earn it by defending his argument or conceding that he was wrong. They appear disrespectful in the first place by brazenly making statements about this champ beating that or whatever and not only are they wrong but they cite evidence as like 1 game they played. I mean what's the point of spending my time being polite and trying to get people to like me. It's a internet forum, fair enough if you try to get people to like you more in real life because they directly impact you. The main point of a forum is to talk about things so not only would trying to be nicer be extra effort and is not really my personality it would also be counter-productive I'll start by saying I don't follow the LoL GD thread anymore so I don't know about arguments in there. It's not about tiptoeing around other people's feelings, but it's really not that hard to hold a discussion without pushing buttons. Look, we're doing it right now, and you're not even breaking a sweat. At least, I hope not. Liking people is important on an internet forum, though. Respect is a big part of it. And while you can get respect by being good at games, you're not going to keep it if no one wants to discuss things with you. You could literally take the objectively correct position in 100% of the discussions you take part in, but few people will ever consider your opinion valid if you present it in such a way that they don't want to continue talking about it. You said that you say inflammitory things so people won't just skip over your (admittedly good, occasionally) advice: I think it might be a subconcious thing where everyone used to just ignore me if I made a good argument but if I threw it an incisive comment they would reply. But is it better to be noticed if the only reason people are replying at all is to tell you to not be a jerk? At that point, your point is forgotten and ignored anyway. It seems counter-intuitive to what you're trying to do. If people are not going to listen to an intelligent, decent post because they don't want to hear your advice, they're not going to want to hear it when you call them names or use slurs to garner attention. They're not going to want to be helped either way, so all that's happening is that you're making a worse reputation for yourself in the meantime. And that kinda sucks, because from what I remember in LoL GD you usually were right about a lot of things (not everything, mind you, but a good number of them). But the only thing about your posts that sticks out in my mind is how you used to stir shit up every time you thought someone was wrong. It's not about people listening to my advice, it's about defending their argument so I can see if they really knew anything interesting. I don't want people to go HURRDURR GREAT TIPS TEUT CAN WE SUCK YOUR DICK AGAIN I just want pricexizor to explain exactly why support warwick makes any sense I mean I don't try to push buttons but it's very hard to be polite if someone's like hurrudurr give everyone guns for a safer world don't fear teh criminals On July 30 2014 05:56 mordek wrote:On July 30 2014 05:22 Slayer91 wrote:On July 30 2014 04:45 mordek wrote: Out of personal curiosity, are you an ENTP teut? Kaceytron is just a bad satirist. its so bad its difficult to tell the difference. she needs to incorporate intro videos and other segments to display the absurdity instead of just existing within her character. if you act like a character and don't show the eccentricities then you aren't acting for comedic effect, or for satire, you are just portraying a real person. Yes the brazzers "kaceytron" is a good example of the satire being used appropriately, but she needs to be a little more overt in order to be successful. right now its all subtle hints, which while those would make a writer or those in on it think about how damn clever they are for getting the jokes, it does a disservice to the goal of satire in the first place. In-jokes aren't a good way of doing satire publicly. comparisons to colbert fall apart here. colbert is very overt and over the top. kaceytron' shit is far more in-jokey and subtle than colberts, which makes it far less successful.

She's satirizing a very niche thing, a thing that isn't ubiquitous in our culture, so she has to make sure she is more overt than she is. there is a reason you develop over the top acting when you first learn comedy. because its easier to get across to an audience that way. and after that you can work on the subtler humor.
