It's a lot easier when I have Bulbapedia so I know what pokemon are where, it's going to be interesting with completely new pokemon and an unfamiliar zone.

Lots of pros have about secretive about Standard leading up to PT Theros. It should be exciting to see what they've been working on.

I've got my deck idea for gameday next weekend. I just need to fill in all the proxies before then (probably about $200ish when all is said and done). I think my sideboard will likely be affected by what's successful at the PT (most likely Esper Control, tbh, Ashiok and Elspeth are insane).

Once reaching a town with a gym, pokemon centers may not be used until that gym is defeated. This way, you don't have to spam items all the way, but it still produces a challenge. To make things a bit more fair, a level cap to face the gym leaders should be put in (i.e. upon reaching lvl X, you have to face the gym leader).

As for the level thing, another common one is that your 'mon can't be a higher level than the Leader's highest when you begin the gym challenge (ofc you might level off trainers in there), same with Rival or E4. Really there's no "hard and fast" rules aside from the first two, everything else is there to make it harder or easier depending on how much of a challenge you want.

And I don't want this to turn into a political debate, the political threads in general are really pitiful to read through. It's just interesting to sit and watch as someone with deliberately no political affiliation.

I think America is too complacent. People are too used to the status quo (and conditioned to stay there) that, even when you blatantly show them a shitstorm, they'll just take it in stride and wait for it to blow over. Could you imagine what it would be like if people took to the streets and marched on the capitol like they do in other countries?

On the whole, the vast majority of citizens haven't had their lives negatively affected by the politics enough to actually do anything about it. They still have their homes, they can eat, they can go about their lives in a normal fashion. (there are obviously exceptions) In comparison to other countries that have tons of political stuff going on, our lives aren't at stake. Also, it's really hard to change anything when you don't have deep pockets.

This is simply something that won't happen in a "first world country."

People are willing to line the streets in protest when an athlete gets caught doping or something stupid like that, but in response to the government shutting down we just get "lol America politics so silly". It baffles me, honestly.

People are getting legitimately pissed and I think a lot of people are finally realizing how fucked up our system is. The next...~2 months should be interesting. Doubtful. The financial system has gotten so complicated that most people don't even begin to comprehend the implications of everything that's going on, and the real, observable effects will be slow to hit the general public, at which point some other issue will have taken the forefront of attention. Hell, in reference to your edit, it's a perfect example. Just two weeks ago government spying was set to incite riots everywhere and now it's all but forgotten.
