I haven't touched a Pokemon game past Ruby/Sapphire, from what i've heard about the recent gens I'm kind've afraid to ._. Someone tell me they're actually good and won't tarnish my memories.

They've been great. Gen 4 doesn't have a lot of hardcore fans, but I like the starters and the Gible line is my favorite in pretty much any game, next to Squirtle. BW and BW2 keep the same formula and add a bit more of a story (though it's still not much of one), and a lot of fun things to do outside of battle. XY look to have even more awesome things, and fully 3D Pokemon.
