My friend gave up on P:M, I suck at sandbagging as even if i SD 2-3 times a game I still win.

Is there a guide to MTG drafting, I have done it a couple of times but its going to take like 20 times to wrap my head around it since I can't remember shit and generally I play HS, Chess and Smash with strategy rather than tactics.

3rd time I played I got second. 3 of the people I played had played it for 3+ years.

Drafting comes with practice. 9/10 unless you're at a table with people who KNOW how to draft and do it frequently you can just force the colors you want to play and go from there. Reading signals and players comes with time, but as for drafting theros, I just force GW/GU Heroic.

Ugh. Telling someone to force a certain archetype every game is like telling them to 4pool every game. Yeah, you'll do well sometimes, but you won't learn anything.

First, the general priority of BREAD. This is of variable value but can help you figure out some stuff if you feel lost / don't understand a set's more specific interactions well. It generally works really well in core sets, though in expert sets, following a coherent theme often trumps the middle bits of "removal>efficiency>aggro"

Bombs (Cards that run away with a game on their own) - efficient dudes with evasion, other "really great" things.

Removal (Kills shit - note that in some drafts, like Theros, there's a lot of really inefficient removal. Be careful, 6 mana sip of hemlock is good to have in your deck, but you probably can't afford more than 1 copy even in the durdliest control deck. This mostly is intended for efficient removal, like Voyage's End or Asphixiate in Theros. Bonus points for instant speed.)

Efficiency - These are just cards that are generically efficiently costed or fit your game plan well (but won't necessarily run away with a game on their own.) There's some overlap between this category and Removal category, particularly depending on your color and the set you're drafting.

Aggro - General "playable" dudes to play generic attack/defense roles. Even draft control decks need blockers - you won't be able to fill your deck with counters and removal like you can in constructed.

Dregs - Junk you aren't particularly happy to put in your deck but will anyway to fill up your 23 playables.

Then we have the idea of signals.
The concept of signals isn't that complicated, even though it's tricky to execute well. You generally want to find 2 colors which aren't being heavily picked - particularly by the people passing to you in packs 1 and 3 - the few seats immediately to your RIGHT. If you can figure out colors that they aren't picking much, you'll be in great shape.

There are a few "phases" of draft.

Phase 1: The first picks.

For the first picks of pack 1, you just want to take the individually most powerful card. Bonus points for being able to run away with a game by itself (like a big, efficiently-costed flier), minus points for multicolored or being "too expensive" (subjective) It'll usually be an uncommon or rare that does its job well, but there's a few first-pickable commons (Wingsteed Rider in triple Theros, for example) Removal is great too.

Pick 2, DON'T MARRY YOUR FIRST PICK - you don't want to blindly commit to your first pick. Look at what's missing (common uncommon rare?) and again, just take something individually powerful, whether or not it's the same color

(Pick 3 may fall into this category too, depending on how powerful the cards in it are)

Phase 2: The Signals, settling into your colors:

Pick 3-6: Start looking for what's missing in the packs. Are there particularly powerful cards of a particular color? Is a color you started on drying up awfully quickly? This is where you want to figure out what colors are open, even if it means abandoning one of your great early picks. This is the "signalling" business people talk about a lot. Secondary to reading the signals coming at you is the signals you're passing. This is because of the left-right-left nature of passing - you are receiving 2 packs from 1 direction but only 1 pack from the other direction. That said, sometimes the signal you're passing is important too, especially if pack 2 is "more important" than pack 3 for you (such as in Dragon/Gatecrash/Ravnica when you're trying to pick up a lot of good cards from a gatecrash guild.)

Phase 3: The second pack:

This pack is weird, because you're now passing to the people that gave you stuff. If you didn't pass great stuff in your color(s) during pack 1 then you should be getting some nice playables from your left. I often find that in pack 2 my picks tend to be focused on one of the two colors I've picked so far, and that's "good enough".

Phase 4: Filling out your deck:
Self explanatory - if you did well picking your colors, you'll have some decent stuff to pick throughout the draft. Sometimes it goes poorly, and you may realize you read a signal wrong late in pack 1 or even in pack 2 and need to bail on one of your colors (This is why you don't marry your first pick!)

Turns 7, 8, 9, 12: flamestrike.
What. ._.

(And that's not even counting the topdecks.)

PUT YOUR FAITH IN THE LIGHT!
...
Said the enemy's Tirion, the turn before being copied by a Manip. ;_;
Welp, was my 10 wins opponent, so such a good deck was to be expected, but that one really roflstomped me. No good combos, just a huge amount of value cards and what seems like a good curve all around.

Well, it's over, 10-3. Last guy was a Warlock with a close to perfect (read: poor guy didn't have legendaries) rushdown deck. From the 1-2 drops to the power overwhelming to the removal, cult master, 2x blood imp, etc. I'm not sure I could have beat that without flamestrike and I didn't have any.

Sylvanas saw no usefulness at all, but my opponents barely played any value cards (well, the paladin did, but it's not like I had the opportunity to draw/play her) and I yearned for taunts more than her at that point (6 mana way too much, I'd rather play Amani+Harvest golem for that cost and be able to kill 2 little minions per turn) so... not sure if that was coming from her, or me failing to use her well.
Cant take LMS hipsters serious.

Props to the guy cosplaying Garterbelt. The fact I can't recognize most of the cosplays must mean I am out of the loop of popular anime.

Just went to an Anime convention yesterday. It seems that, in terms of cosplay, Attack on Titan/League of Legends is the new Sword Art Online which was the new Naruto. Also SO MUCH HOMESTUCK x.x

Homestuck fandom is crazy. I actually like it (although I'm pretty far behind) but it's one of those times where the fans make me embarrassed to be a fan.

Attack on Titan is ridic popular and it's unfortunate because unlike Naruto or whatever there's basically only one costume, and it's just varying levels of how good said costume is.

Occasionally you get somebody doing awesome shit with it though like this: http://i.imgur.com/zAgY1Mih.jpg

LoL cosplay is getting really popular too, although there wasn't much of it at Anime Conji compared to AX. At Anime Expo last year it may have been the most popular single "show" being represented, I'm excited to see how big it's going to be this year.
