I had a few professors that skewed the pass/fail scale the other way. One guy was a huge dissenter of the D grade, but since it's technically required to be a possible grade, he made it a .1% range on his scale. Failing was a 69.8%. I've never been bothered by exams, I suppose I test well. Firsts tests/quizzes for me have always been about feeling out how the professor is creating their tests with regards to how they teach the class/presented us information. In undergrad I would start at literally 0 effort beyond any required homework(I fucking despise graded homework) and ramp up as required to keep my A.

this is why liberal arts schools like williams, reed, pomona etc end with college and not university - they don't offer grad programs

In Canada it's just University -> usually 4-5 years, ends with a bachelor's degree (also post-graduate studies are included here) College -> community college, 1-2 years, for slower folks like plumbers and such ![]() Which is why it's so weird that Americans use college indiscriminately. A Canadian university student would never say that they go to college.

My alma mater took great pride in being a college (meant profs were there to teach instead of do research).

I had a class where everyone studied hard for the first test and over half the class failed. I thought I did really well on the test... nope. Second test I was like "whatever", didn't study at all, and almost aced it, as did most of the rest of the class. Some profs grade really oddly. The soph- part is from sophos, for wisdom, and the more is from morus, for foolish (same root as moron). So sophomores are wise fools.
