anime discussion is especially tough compared to, say, kpop or kdrama discussion because of how broad 'anime' is - it'd be like lumping together a bunch of the separate music genre threads like just the most recent page has mentions of girls of the wilds (not even an anime, sugoi), mushishi s2, black bullet, and knights of sidonia, none of which have much in common | ||

Dragon Ball, Jojo's Bizzare Adventure, and Fist of the North Star predate it by more than a decade, and things like Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin also are older. And those aren't even the oldest, just some that most people recognize as being "classic" shounen. Naruto and Bleach are just the current worst offenders of "hey, let's make cookie cutter shounen and still make bank". Not all current shounen sucks, but it's probably one of the worst periods in recent history for the genre. | ||

The creator's story is air-fucking-tight, and it's been going for over a decade. He's set stuff in motion and created seeds for things that didn't show up for years and years.
