I'm pretty sure he would have died. He was in autoattack range of Voyboy, who still had about 200 HP. He had to either flash away from him or E away from him if he didn't want to die right there. If you pay attention to Voy's HP bar you will see that he loses about 100 HP in the time that scarra gained through that, due to minion and ignite damage. I think if he just E'd him in close combat range both would have died.

That's why it was impressive.
Though I think scarra wasn't planning on that happening, he probably flashed the milisecond he saw lee sin was too low.

Also the auto attack kiting let him get his e off cooldown before dying.
