Terrible use of Vipers and Infestors - gets nothing done other than getting EMPed or blown up by tanks. Doesn't know how to ling run by. Doesn't know how to use drop or nydus to look for openings in Terran's defense. All he did was making Roach/Ravager/Hydra/Ling over and over and run them head on into Maru's well established siege lines. Of course he lost to Maru every time.

To me if you want to play a bit off-standard you either have to be hiding something, or alternatively have a ‘new standard’ that’s extremely potent. Maru’s regular TvZ is no mystery at all to anyone, so I don’t see what he’s really gaining from not playing it. And even in Maru’s hands mech still seems too weak to supplant bio styles. Maybe the injury is giving him issues? Only reason I can come up with really. soO is looking better than I’ve seen in some time, so that’s cool! Hopefully he can start making a dent in the odd tournament.

Hopefully he can start making a dent in the odd tournament. I think it could be pretty easily explained by Maru not taking his group very seriously. It's a bad habit he's known for especially early in tournaments and especially vs Zerg opponents. Considering his record against everyone in this group, it's hard to blame him, except that he's being held to the highest possible of standards. It does seem to me like he tries to not overdo it in as many matches as he can nowadays, whether that's due to injury and trying to keep himself healthy or because he doesn't have the same drive as he used to I'm not sure. But with a career as long as his, and with the state of the Korean scene being what it is, either explanation can be very plausible.

Aye I’m not even being particularly critical of Maru, just curious. It would seem if you were just coasting in second gear you’d play something close to your regular style that’s proved very effective against these opponents recently. Rather than bring out something less tried and tested. Almost play your go-to ladder mainstays, maybe with a few tweaks. Or perhaps he’s found mech very resilient to aggression and timings and chose to employ it to make him hard to kill, and realistically if he was to drop out it would be via those things. So mech having those late game issues is perhaps a price worth paying for relative safety.

He also said that he expected the group to be very easy and was surprised by how difficult it was. So I think some of that "not taking it seriously" applies as well.

They are also very juicy abduct targets and slow. And Tempest could snipe Vipers, are cheaper (much cheaper considering Interceptor cost) and less supply.

Kinda weird) IIRC in Classic's last year before military service, he had to get special permission to travel abroad for tournaments. As a result Classic missed Katowice in 2019 but was cleared for Blizzcon. Maybe Dark knows it's too short notice/StarsWars is too small for him to get an exemption.

The games were entertaining (because of sloppiness and dubious decisions) but I'd hardly call them peak. Was hard to shake the feeling that Dark was trying to play down and 'style' on him. When he looks dominant it's usually pretty scrappy and compact so it's weird to see the big tech switches. Also the one game refusal to build hydras or AA was questionable. Watching almost a dozen infestors die with no other units was pretty painful. Other than that Bunny had an insanely brutal day.
