Would have liked it to come at the expense of another player tbh I feel the same way. But I think a GSL Silver does almost as much solidifying for even the heaviest doubters that Gumiho is for real and he needs to be taken seriously. He's picked up a couple well fought Silvers this year. Record-wise hes the 3rd best Terran this year, behind Maru and Cure, ahead of Clem, Byun and Bunny.

Awesome Solar!! Well deserved! Congratulations <3

I would still put him at fourth behind Clem in a terran power rank for this year though. Ahead of Bunny is a given because of how poorly the year went for Bunny, but for ByuN it's also wrist dependant
GSL finals is still pretty solid, Classic wasn't a walk-over, good timing for c9

Damn, i feel like Creator woulda put up a better showing (prepared really well and all) and done much better vs Gumiho, considering he beat Bunny pretty easily.
And then i woulda gotten to see Creator vs Solar which is a MU i love watching. And i feel Creator woulda beaten Solar or at least it woulda been a really close series, considering how strong he looked vs Solar in the group stages... Oh well, maybe next year Creator !

I'm happy to see Solar win his first GSL!

Congratulations to Solar on his GSL win at long last.
But i can't help but chuckle at Cloud9.Gumiho getting 2nd place.

I'd consider the winner of the Zerg side of the bracket significantly favored over the other side, and the way Solar has looked lately, I'd say that he's favored in that match up.
I still ended up voting for Gumiho because he was who I wanted to win, but it's nice to know that my actual analysis was right on the money.

Grats to Solar, pretty cool that he finally got his GSL at long last!

Damn my personal predictions were pretty close. I had Gumi 3-0 classic, Dark 1-3 Solar, Gumi 2-4 Solar.
Glad Solar finally got his dub. I've always thought his approach to zvz is unrivaled.

What a fantastic day by Solar! I wish the GSL finals would be closer, but I was still super excited watching his player cam in the final seconds of his win.

Who else from the list of great players never get the chance to win Code S? Only sOs, Soo and Trap, I believe.

Happy for Solar to finally get that monkey off his back, just a bit sad Gumiho didn’t bring more of his traditional madcap style to the finals, Gumiho doing that is more potent (and entertaining) than trying to play cookie cutter TvZ where he’s just worse than a Maru/Cure/Clem in execution.
Classic showed up too, and I think he’s shown enough these last few months to be back up at the top table, maybe the top Protoss especially in a prep tournament. Just need Stats to show what he’s capable of and herO to emerge from his slump, with Creator showing something this season and Protoss’ situation in Korea really looks quite solid

random but anyone remember in heart of the swarm when maru obliterated a zerg in gsl or proleague using pure air like mass viking/banshee and then just never did it again. it was on that purple map with the weird ass name like "lonely hearts" or something. i miss when you saw more crazy shit in zvt

Congrats to Solar. Macro/Micro/Multitask all super on-point in the finals and killer aggression vs Dark. A championship performance to go 7-1 on the final day. GG.

I just loved Maru playing speed Banshees.

Really fun set of matches, and Solar really played like a champion tonight. It's a shame that the format means that, as both the players acknowledged in their pre-match interview, they really only prepared for the semis. It would be very interesting to see what builds Gumi could pull out given sufficient time to get ready for Solar. As it is, he just played so unprepared middle-of-the-road standard, that he fell in-between stools. Not quite aggressive enough to create chaos, not quite defensive enough to win with real turtle terran, not committed enough to kill with timing attacks. There's no question Solar's standard play is just better.
This win really puts Solar over the top though imo, especially the devastating 3-0 of Dark. It's hard to overstate just how impressive in an all-time sense his win-streak in ZvZ over the past few months has been. It's always been such a fluid, chaotic, coin-flippy match-up, since the beginning of SC2, and is the last match-up to have a great seem untouchable and dominant in and the last match-up anyone would expect to be figured out at all. That streak is really the most impressive thing, but cementing it by showing it wasn't a fluke in a high-stakes match against one of the best Zergs in the world AND winning a GSL championship to my mind just permanently secures Solar's place as one of the all-time great Zergs. Even if he completely falls apart after this, he now has to be someone you mention in the same breath as people like Reynor, Dark, Serral, and Rogue.
Classic, meanwhile, has definitely cemented his status as one of the two or three current Great Protoss Hopes--but alas, it's a thankless, thankless role to play. Losing in the Semis is I guess sort of his job now, just as it was for Trap and HerO and Zest and Stats before him. Ironically, it seems very likely he would have had a better shot against Solar than Gumiho, given his record against him and the current state of PvZ. It was very fun to watch Gumiho style on poor Classic, though, and his mech builds were extremely exciting to watch: it really feels like he's very close to turning that into a not only viable but powerful strat, mixing Cyclones Hellions and Siege Tanks to create a strong and balanced mid-game army that can push as well as defend.
Speaking for myself, I was cheering more for Gumiho and Classic because they're more heart-string-tugging and exciting. But I always have had a huge soft spot for the hard-working lifer players like Solar, and also for Solar himself. He's an ex-Samsung-KHAN player I've been cheering for since Proleague, and has always shared in some of the honorableness and haplessness characteristic of that storied team. I'm very happy for him.
