Fresh off the fires of Summer Split playoffs, qualifier sign-up for WTL 2023 Winter Split is now open to all teams.
Prize pool
Code A: ￥12,000 ($1,613)
Code S: ￥300,000 ($41,313) + additional crowdfunding contributions.
Sign-up
Teams must have a minimum of 3 players and a maximum of 10 players. Please download the sign-up form via this link (File - Download), and send completed sign-up form to scboydoll@126.com, titled "2023WTL_Winter [team name]". Please also contain the following info in the email:
Team manager ID
Contact info (Discord)
Team Liquipedia page, if unavailable, please include team member SC2 ladder ranking screenshots.
Qualifiers will be WTL regular season format, single elimination, top 6 advance to Code A.
Code A consists of 6 qualifier teams and 2 invited teams:
Invictus Gaming: relegation from WTL Summer
Berserker eSports: relegation from WTL Summer
Code A will be WTL regular season format, double elimination, top 3 advance to Winter Split Code S.

Sign-up: August 14-24, deadline Thursday, Aug 24 3:59pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
Bracket announcement:August 25
Qualifier: starts September 1
Code A: starts September 11
Regular season: starts September 29

They disbanded right after the season playoff, and some players are looking for new team at the moment.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing.
The timing of WTL Summer was a bit iffy in terms of letting everyone find new homes before the start of the season, especially with Team/Club/Biker Gang NV being in a weird place. ABYDOS ended up being a good temporary measure to let a lot of strong players compete in WTL, but for Winter, hopefully everyone finds a more permanent landing spot before the season.

Yea, we'll see, I get that Abydos was never gonna be a super stable option, though I'm not a fan of top teams disbanding. I feel like it mess up the format a bit by creating ultra strong team in the qualifiers with all those free agents.
We already have mystery gaming gearing up for a run next qualifiers, we could have another top team if Abydos players join another org (or maybe NV 3.0).
On another note, someone better pick Gumiho this offseason, I'm long overdue for some WTL Gumi magic.

Along with Gumiho, I also wonder about Classic as well. Would Twisted Mind keep him after Gamers8 and actually trying to get a team for WTL? And alongside Mystery Gaming, we have the Matcherino team (formerly AlphaX) as well as the Freecs with TY and Stats are back.
As for team who is currently in WTL, DKZ will need to pick someone up to replace Dark who might leave for military soon. SR or PsiStorm might want to improve their roster after a fairly dissapointed season.

List of teams playing in the Qualifier is announced. Still no sign of Gumiho, and only Nightmare has been picked up by a new team, the rest of former Abydos players are not yet signed.

Happy to see the Freecs playing again, I was a bit confused why they didn't play last season.
Freecs, Mystery Gaming, Twisted Minds, and Matcherino should be the favorites to make Code A.
