The best player does not always win. I really thought Serral would win. Playing lots of games, more often the better player wins, but not necessarily. Part of it is luck, because matchups really matter. Reynor has one of the better shots against Serral, maybe the best shot against Serral. Just something about that matchup makes things odd, because Serral is currently the best player. Reynor is the 2nd best player in WCS, but seems to struggle more, outside of WCS. Dark matches up worse against Serral. As mentioned, many view ZvZ as Dark's worst matchup. But instead of having to play Rogue, Dark has a much better shot against Classic. If the draw or previous matches had worked out differently, we very well could have had a different result. But that's the way lady luck dealt the hand, and you do the best you can.
The Serral vs Reynor match and the Rogue vs Classic matches were crazy.
Congrats to Dark for winning it all.

I'd say Rogue was the favourite in 2017, just because of the amazing form he'd shown in the tournaments prior. I still wasn't sure if he'd actually win but he certainly seemed like the best player at the time.

Well, GG Dark. Congrats on going through 3 fantastic players of different races. It was a good run.

For what it's worth, there were some fantastic ro16 and playoff games. I think Showtime and TIME (heh) both showed a lot of talent, and while I know the Korean region is losing a lot of good players, if these WCS players are who we have to look forward to, I think we'll be just fine (That is, if SC2 continues).

That being said, I'm definitely going to remember this Blizzcon as one where balance definitely overshadowed the thrill of the Global Finals. It was frustrating to watch at times, and it was somewhat ironic that Dark pulled off the Nydus strat against another Zerg.

I am very disappointed that bizzard decided to have this bracket played out in a single day (or night if you live in EU). There's really no way to follow the whole thing unless youre in the us.
If the viewer numbers show a decline in viewership over the event because of this scheduling, I am scared for the future of WCS.

Damn, Serral really threw game 5 against Reynor by going full retard on Ultras (although G4 looked similar for Reynor but he didn't have that much advantage IIRC). Grats Dark for the win.

That said, Serral vs Reynor was once again very entertaining. I didn't watch Maru vs Dark live this night and that was a good choice.

Well, he got robbed of 2016 Blizzcon because of balance issues so I think if some Zerg deserves to take advantage of this Zerg favored meta, it's him.
