Not even a proper comparison. Lilbow knew his odds so he knew what he was doing from the beginning. Maru can do way better.
I disagree, Lilbow's adaptation to the all ins could have been better handled if he had trained and saw how Life played the Kung fu cup where he faced 3 top protoss in a row. And considering the state of zvp at this time, the mid game would have been so much in his favor that he could have done something.

Smart player would adapt after the 1st game and play standard from then on... instead he just stubbornly continued with his BS and let sOs read him like a book. That's the thing, sOs realized that Maru's standard play in TvP is proxy rax.

When did Serral become this dominant? When did MajOr have a huge breakthrough? So any new promising Korean players or is it same old same-old? Where's Innovation? So my understanding is Starcraft is growing steadily everywhere but in Korea...? This year. Last Blizzcon. Same old. No.1 KR ladder. Dying in Korea.

Maru and sOs probably practice against each other all the time. It might be that Maru almost always lost the standard macrogames, in which case his stubborness makes more sense. Even so game three should have been standard macro for sure, but he was clearly tilted as hell by then.

So my understanding is Starcraft is growing steadily everywhere but in Korea...? 1) beginning of 2018 he started getting really good, mid 2018 unbeatable for foreigners 2) when his total practice in Korea started paying off in late 2017/2018 3) a lot of lower tier players in KR, but they can't touch progamers. Very similar to amateurs vs ex-pros in SCBW right now 4) he's sucked entire year and eventually missed Blizzcon when he didn't even qualify for Super Tournament 2 5) yes

You finnish traitor! (I kind of think you made a joke, but still!)

recent bias
Hardly.
Lilbow was never gonna do anything in that tournament, people were lying to themselves thinking he would.
This is different.
