He shitstomped more or less everyone in WCS; he won the event with, like, 3 losses the whole way. Now he's trashing koreans, too, having won sets vs Trap, Zest, Rogue and Impact. You can't really say 'yeah, but Scarlett is top 8 in korea' because she's one of the few foreigners to really dedicate herself to GSL, so it's not an equal comparison. However, with Scarlett disappointing at both WCS and IEM, and Neeb not quite finding himself, Serral's left as the best foreigner by far right now. They can catch up - but it's going to be hard if Serral keeps this up. Scarlett literally beat Serral just before her GSL match, they are both very good Serral is more consistent though Scarlett seems very peaky and easily thrown off her game. Scarlett is a very good player, but to me it feels as though she kind of has to prep for her opponent, and in situations where her prep isn't as strong (IEM WC, WCS) she falters super hard. It's tough to say someone's better than Serral when they've lost twice to Namshar, gotten thrashed by Guru, and lost to TRUE, all in their best (by far) matchup. Not to mention that she's also a combined 3-22 in games against Neeb, Kelazhur and uThermal, the three best non-zerg foreigners she's played. She literally won the previous IEM with minimal prep for most series

Surely then we must give her leave to lose elsewhere for not being “dedicated” to those tournaments because she’s focused on Korea No, but you can knock Scarlett for losing consistently to foreigners and faltering come the biggest tournament of the year so far (IEM WC). Not to mention, I honestly think in hindsight her GSL run has not been crazy strong. We've seen Rogue, INnoVation and Zest all consistently lose to foreigners recently, and with her incredible ability to prep, I don't think it's particularly surprising to see her overcome some struggling players. Does that mean that she's bad? Of course not. I actually think she might have the best ZvZ in the west, and if she beats soO, maybe even in the world. But her ZvP and ZvT have lagged far behind, compared to Serral who has consistently excelled in ZvP, remained solid in ZvT and isn't far behind Scarlett in ZvZ.

Just to nitpick I think she is first since Naniwa for ro8, if she gets ro4 that will be first since Jinro.

Compared to Serral who hasn't lost to a bad player in 2018, and has massively succeeded in 2/3 of the major offline tournaments he's played in while doing okay at the third. Scarlett is very good, but she's not touching Serral in ZvP or ZvT.

Naniwa never qualified for GSL. He was given a seed. There's a big difference, especially in the era where Naniwa was playing the qualifiers for GSL were absolutely brutal.
Scarlett is the first since Jinro to qualify for the tournament and make it to the Ro8.

That didn’t really address my argument at all. “Dedicated to Korea” were his words not mine I'm not saying that to talk down at Scarlett - I still think she's top 3 in the west and I actually put her above Serral going into this tournament. I just think it's unfair to say "yeah, but she's doing really well in GSL" when no other big name foreigner is playing in GSL, so who knows how they would've done. Considering how poorly INno, Rogue and Zest have played vs zerg recently (and the fact that Serral has beat 2/3 of them, while the other completely bombed this tournament), it's tough to hold those three sets up and say "Yes, she is the best in the west due to this". Her IEM Pyeongchang run was as good as her WCS and IEM WC runs were bad, so that somewhat evens out to me.
