From the challonge page : "The Median-Buchholz system is used to break ties in Swiss tournaments. The value displayed in the standings table is the sum of a player's opponents' scores, with the best and worst scores discarded"

So just because Wire happened to play opponents with a better score he's ahead of me? Edit: I'm not that desperate to get into the playoffs but the system doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I just don't understand it.

You lost the first two rounds which means you were very likely to face weaker opposition.

OMW% (another version of Bucholz) is the first tiebreaker used in magic the gathering. It's far from stupid, it's actually the most accurate way to measure strength of schedule among opponents who haven't played one another in a swiss format.

Still it's not all in your control. Let's say I win the first match and get matched against another player who won the first match. Then that player loses all following matches. Then I get negative Buchholz despite playing an opponent who at that time had all his matches won.

The best and worst score are discarded for Buchholz - you realistically won't end up playing anyone who finishes with a worse score than the guy you just described. Unless you just happened to play the worst player in the league in week 1. But realistically, things even out as the league goes on.

But then the 2nd worst score doesn't get discarded (which otherwise would be) so it still punishes you for something out of your control. Though no complaints more from me, I guess it's true that Wire played better opponents than me.

If the qualifications criteria for playoffs don't change, it's actually winner goes through (in second place even) with loser eliminated in all cases. What a high stake match ! Will try to be home from badminton for this.

I said on stream that would be the case but I didn't realize Golo was 3-2 with 7 maps too. So, if Olli loses 2-1, since Golo would be tied with us and I won over him (while Olli didn't play Golo or Charoisaur), I'd have 1 win vs tied opponents as well and then I think my buchholz is higher. I can of course be wrong but if all of that is correct I'm in fact locked for 4th place, meaning we would play again, and a bo5 - something I'd be looking forward to and you as well I think !
