Oh dear. Some rivals they are. I downloaded Ruby (I think?) a while ago but never got started on it. Haven't played any since Gold. Might have to give it a whirl.

I really liked the original Ruby (never played the Gen 6 remakes, but yeah Emerald probably better) but imo it had one of the worst "rivals" in Pokémon ever.

Wally is a way better rival and you fight him like twice.
Honestly I would be surprised if Has gets knocked out. Especially if zerg makes it to final match. But given how vZ is China's specialty, that doesn't seem likely.
