For anyone that hasn't been following our "story" so far; We're a grassroots Esports group with an awesome community supporting us. With their help we managed to run a wildly successful Kickstarter in order to host a live event (read: BASICALLY AN EXCUSE FOR A STARCRAFT PARTY). Uhm yeah don't know know who posted that on the googles, but no, that's not the venue, obviously.
CranK's picture makes him look like a member of a mafia.

So Rif is underboss and it's the day that Livi gets married? I can kindasorta work with that. Now to write super gushy fanfics about how ZG eliminates her enemies. Will I get into trouble for blogging that? It'll be safe-for-work.

Why would you ruin it like that?
Because I think that writing fanfics of a mixture between The Godfather and SC casters should be left mostly violent but not sexual. Also because I'm a boring Canadian. Sorry!

Yeah there won't be much swearing. Violence is a bit different, but I won't go into detail about how people die. Just "the capo Cranko took aim. Click. Click. Click. And the enemy was no more."

Wait will the venue's Internet be able to support the event? As well know, Rogers and Bell residential and business Internet is shit. Only time I've experienced good Internet in Toronto is when I'm at Ryerson using an ethernet connection.

Being an esport dedicated center it'd be rather fail if they couldn't get contract for decent internet to support this much capacity.

If the venue was at like a hotel or concert hall or something like that, then i'd be worried, but like the other person said, Its an E sports stadium.. If they were to have shit internet.... That would be like hosting a soccer/football tournament on a ice skating rink

I'm from Nova Scotia, wish I could head to this but already have two trips coming up shortly.. Love the things BTTV is doing lately though, love the Canadian aspect of it too! Keep up the great work guys! Its actually refueled my passion for SC a bit, I quit for a few years but just getting back into it and watching BaseTrade TV has been entertaining as all hell, unlike a lot of SC casts

You would be surprised how garbage our internet is... Just because the name is an e-sports stadium doesn't mean anything. My friend owned a LAN before and they used regular internet just like everyone else.
this is awesome.. i love another event in my back yard. that said.. if the capacity was only going to 250.... and with Rifkin from British Columbia ..and Vancouver having a grand total of zero major Starcraft events up until this point....
as much as i like stickin' it to Vancouver every chance i get... couldn't Rifkin have found a venue in Vancouver with a capacity of 250+ ? with Vancouver having never gotten a major event he could've charged big money for tickets.
i'm happy, but i feel bad for people in BC and Alberta.. and even Saskatoon.

And yes, I've harped on this before but there's no reason this should have not been in Vancouver. Instead of Vancouver getting it's first real event, Toronto gets it's like 7th large event. And the western half of this country is left out once again.

I know you all are just disappointed, but stuff like this is really frustrating to hear. Sorry it wasn't in Vancouver, or San Fran, or Detroit, or anywhere else, but this is where it is. If there's a second event, or you feel up to contacting IEM/DH/WCS, you can appeal to us/them on how Vancouver would be the better option.

van-where? Never heard of it and no one probably lives there. Toronto is an esports hub in the western hemisphere so the tournament would only logically be in Toronto instead of some backwater province.

i too understand that people from left-out cities feel frustration at not getting events, but like... that's life? movies open in LA and NY first because they're LA and NY. big cities are big, they're attractive and sensible places for events. yah it's a decent thing to do to spread things around and show appreciation for other locales, but like... this is basetrade's first time doing this... i don't think they really owe vancouver anything. i think they owe their fans a good show for raising the money, and if toronto is where they feel they can put on the best show then that's what they should do
literally any place on earth can complain about not getting events, at the end of the day no one "deserves" it more than anyone else it's just a matter of practicality. what about the poor starcraft fans in nairobi? life ain't always fair. if anyone should be taking the initiative on bringing events to new esports markets it should be someone like ESL or redbull

a couple of casters ditched this thing to do Heroes.... i don't want them there if their deepest passion is not Starcraft and RTS games.
Rifkin was recently asked what game he'll switch to when Starcraft's popularity wanes. He replied by saying he only wants to do STarcraft... if Starcraft events no longer generate sufficient viewers he is not switching to some other game.
this is why Rifkin is awesome... because he truly loves Starcraft and RTS and isn't going to become a Hearthstone or Heroes broadcaster the nano-second it becomes a financial advantage.
if other casters have "other commitments" to games that are not RTS... .its probably best for everyone that they are not at the event.
so , to me, these developments makes the caster's desk KICK ASS.
I'd like to conclude with a song about living your passion...

as much as i like stickin' it to Vancouver every chance i get... couldn't Rifkin have found a venue in Vancouver with a capacity of 250+ ? with Vancouver having never gotten a major event he could've charged big money for tickets.
i'm happy, but i feel bad for people in BC and Alberta.. and even Saskatoon.

canadians like boring. u ever watch CBC news? i'm 100% happy with the caster line up. i can't wait for your post #5 rebuttal though.
I feel bad for people from Saskatoon too, no one should have to suffer that fate.
And yes, I've harped on this before but there's no reason this should have not been in Vancouver. Instead of Vancouver getting it's first real event, Toronto gets it's like 7th large event. And the western half of this country is left out once again.
van-where? Never heard of it and no one probably lives there. Toronto is an esports hub in the western hemisphere so the tournament would only logically be in Toronto instead of some backwater province.
Actually, Mississauga has had more major SC2 events than Vancouver.... Ouch

Hey now, Saskatoon is still the best city in Saskatchewan.

So there.
Best city in Saskatchewan is like being the best Starcraft player from Africa. There's not much competition.

To be fair there's no reason this should have been in Vancouver either, right? I mean there's no Canadian or ESPORTS law saying that big cities in a given country should be given the same amount of ESPORTS events?
Took a look at supernovaknt post count. 4 posts, out of which 3 were trolling and a warning. Gotta hand it to him for being a successful troll in a forum where trolls get banned faster than maru cheeses. Now, if only he could go away.
Also, kudos to bttv for having it on my birthday. I shall be watching it very very drunk

He may be a troll but he's certainly not swag_bro yet. He has a lot of work to do.
I have trouble understanding why doing something other than Starcraft alienates you in the community. This is planet earth. Everyone needs money. To like.. ya know.. live.. and stuff.

People get butthurt that Sc2 people have to do other games. LoL and Dota casters don't have to do other games for money, those games are more than enough for them. Plus, they don't want their favorite casters to jump ship like Day9 or people like him did.

wrestling fans react the same way to the Rock when he goes away from the WWE and does a movie. like any smart promoter Vince Mcmahon, rather than moralizing that the fans should not act this way, milks it for every nickel he can make.

When the Indiegogo ends, Blizzard will generate Codes and will be emailed to an address you either already gave through the Kickstarter, (through Indiegogo you'll probably get a survey to enter email address as well).
The codes you will probably be able to enter into your Battle Net Account through the Battle Net website.

it's nico5000 on TL (Nicolas Chaussois on FB i think) he made a thread that you may know "SC2 Propaganda" i think. Agreed it should be mentioned though.
Really looking forward to HIAT as it's my first esports event, but is there any way to upgrade from a spectator to a player pass? I got a spectator pass by default from the kickstarter, and currently Eventbrite is showing 40 available player passes.
Alternatively, is there a place/tables in the venue where spectators with laptops would be able sit down to play together?
Oh hell yeah, glad Mal is getting more gigs. He's by far my favorite translator, and I'd love to see how he does with hosting an on-stage event. He did well hosting several online events a while back.

He hosted/translated some of the Red Bull events last year.
Been asked this several times, hoping to post it here to clarify: IF YOU PLAN TO PLAY IN THE EVENT YOU WILL NEED A PLAYER PASS The only people who don't need to purchase player passes are the ones who qualified into the tournament. We do have some (not many) on reserve in case anybody misses them, but if you fail to acquire a player pass you will NOT be able to compete in our tournament.
We do not care how you placed in WCS, or what you believe your "invite" status should be, there are no invites to this tournament, you must qualify through the open bracket.

Yes, we should have gone to the other place where everyone else went. The food wasn't even that good, really feel like I missed out on something by not going there.

Make up for it by going to the right place this time!
I think it would be a good idea to play Groups 2 & 3 at 10:00 AM and Groups 1 & 4 at 4:00 PM based on the players' nationalities in the groups. 2 & 3 might be more relevant to European viewers while I'd imagine 1 & 4 are the most interesting groups for people living in America. However, the groups are played on a Saturday so there is a chance for many people to watch StarCraft at 10:00 AM in America to catch the first groups, or 10:00 PM for Europeans in the later groups.
Just an update on start times for everyone: Day 1 - 9:00AM EDT players may enter and start practicing / set up. BRACKETS LIKE AT 10:45 AM, SHOW STARTS AT 11:00 AM EDT Day 2 - 9:00 AM EDT players, groups begin at 10:00 AM EDT Day 3 - 9:00 AM EDT Players, playoffs begin at 10:00 AM EDT
Thank you rifkin, thank you zombiegrub. Thank you for free to watch sc2 tournament content, thank you for free chat and thank you for saving starcraft!
