It's obviously just my opinion, but I have always felt that individual games are more interesting strategically (particularly quake and starcraft). When you have more than one player in the game, it dilutes much of what is capable. Also Sc2 mechanically just has a lot more to it. The skill in cs revolves around excellent weapon control and taking good engagements. In terms of the overall skill to play both games, I feel starcraft/quake are in a world above. This is coming from someone who has a decent amount of experience playing all three.
It is certainly true that within almost any game, high level players can elevate the game itself.
