I have a free ticket for 1 person. You'd have to give me a ride to and from San Francisco both days. Although I also could spend Saturday night near Stanford to make things easier.

Major qualifying for a tournament and not showing up? What a shocker.
I acknowledge that this seems a bit more legitimate than his other incidents, but this seems to happen over and over with him, and it's frustrating to watch him take qualifying spots and then not show up consistently.

Yup, won't have very big numbers today anyway since this is day 1 and it's Wednesday. But the starting time is pretty good as it's the best time for Europe. But that also means that the tournament will run late into the night for European viewers.

Yeah but none of the players dropping out were invited.
That's surprising, this tournament was probably Scarletts last chance to make it into the top 5 foreign earners this year and is one of the few events on her home continent. Hopefully it's not the wrists again.
On the other hand, I like a lot of the players in the OB, so I'm not complaining about someone forfitting groups. Might get more unusual contenders now.

I understand that people have their reasons for not showing up, and I respect that; however, I have the opinion that it was handled very poorly by the players if they all dropped out the DAY OF the tournament.
Does anyone know if IEM just waited to tell us? I am just speculating, but the situation seems like it would be more advantageous to withhold players dropping out that would increase numbers.

I feel like it must have been late notice, or they would have had more replacements lined up.
I have tickets to this event (for both days) that I can no longer attend. If anyone is interested in buying them for a steep discount, please reply to this post or send me a PM.
So almost everyone who made this tournament interesting isn't able to compete now. I guess I'm glad that I didn't have the time free to try and go now.

Gumiho:
After leaving CJ, your form has been really great online with you winning 9 Leifang Cups. Do you feel revitalized after leaving the team and being able to participate in more online events? What experiences did you take away from training in the CJ house?
You have a very unique style and use units other Terrans often don't use in TvP like tanks and banshees. Is there a reason you like using them above the more common bio medivac comp?
Choya has recently become the new coach of MVP, how do you think the team will do under his leadership?
I'm curious in general, but it could be directed at Gumiho too, if players who are planning on attending a tournament have been practicing using Dreampool or doing mostly custom games.

liquipedia just changed the graphic for the winenrs finals. does that mean we will see the gumiho vs super game? i sure hope so, the other games are kind of 1-sided.
"Super so good he been in code s before." "gumiho hasn't really done anything noteworthy""that sums up gumiho career". wtf? Gumiho has been in code s like 16 times. 9 straight.
2 Koreans and 3 qualifying spots... looks like one foreigner will qualify simply because there aren't enough Koreans to fill all the spots lol. So far the two Koreans, Super and Gumiho, are collectively 8-0 vs. foreigners, and they've already both qualified lol. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/IEM_Season_IX_-_San_Jose#Stage_1

Intense has been putting up great showings lately. We'll see if it holds when we have a new competitive map season, but he genuinely appears to be Breaking Out (good job, Feardragon!)
Huk does seem to play rather old school. Most other good protoss seems to have a more streamlined game plan, while he tends to fiddle about with immortals instead of getting aoe damage.

Yeah "lesser" player was probably worded badly, but i think it is fair to say that Huk should be a tier above him But reading Huk's twitter, he doesn't seem to enjoy PvT these days , hehe I think that "bias" alone makes him play way worse than he should be able to

Yes, but noit against opponents of HuK's/Showtimes Caliber. No offense to Bails, PandaBearMe, Midday and Kelazhur but winning against them does not tell you that much about possible future IEM performances.

I don't disagree (though some would list Bails among the top NA Protosses), but he won quite convincingly, and that tournament is quickly building a strong reputation for itself. It's a notable achievement that shows how much he's on the upswing right now.

Yes, I agree, it is definitly a sign of improvement, even though it doesn't mean much for this particular tourney. Idk about Bails, he might be one of the Top NA protoss, but that does not mean that much atm. I mean there is HuK, puck, Scarletts offrace, maybe Minigun, maybe State, but in general the NA protoss scene is a lot weaker than EU/CHina.

Yeah, top-level players would never make mistakes like buiding the wrong unit! They'd just accidentally destroy their own Command Centers on the main stage of the most prestigious tournament in the West.

When I think about americans having a few guaranteed 4,5k spots. That money is worth dozens of Zotacs and each Zotac is harder to win than an NA qualifier.
Edit: After the first 3-4 spots (HuK, MajOr, Scarlett) are determiend ofc.
Major's gonna be sectioned into the Latin American region, I'm pretty sure. And you didn't count Polt and Violet.
Also, I've heard similar things from other top foreigners in 2010-2011 as HuK's saying now. Qxc even called his own old successes luck.

Yeah, top-level players would never make mistakes like buiding the wrong unit! They'd just accidentally destroy their own Command Centers on the main stage of the most prestigious tournament in the West.
That was just a SINGLE misclick. Yes, it was incredibly fatal (even though he won in the end), but let's not blow that out of proportion. In this series, both players made a lot of mistakes the entire game. Huk repeatedly missed continuous probe production even though he had the minerals and the intention to do so. His zealots in the second game attacked the rax next to the CC for a good amount of time before engaging the scvs and his warp prism in the third game just did nothing and died.

Yes, sure, I'm still not sure, how exactly the required visa work, but Polt will most likely be there. viOLet probably as well, depending on whether or not todays rumors are true. Also forgot, there was a separate Latin american region, in that case MajOr will obviously play there.

I use that as the most egregious example. In 2014, a payer who had just made Top 8 in Code S couldn't figure out where the Photon Overcharge button was to save his life. There's a myth that only foriegners make big mistakes. In my experience watching GSL and WCS, Koreans not only make mistakes, they make much bigger individual mistakes. Fewer of them overall, obsolutely, but some of their mistakes are inexcusable for Diamond level on any server.

I'd steal Hitler's clothes. The Nazis may have had some questionable pastimes, but their sense of fashion was second to none. Saddam looked like the runner up in a bumfight tournament.

Killer came back during Copa America. I'd say Kelazhur is probably in the best form right now out of anyone we've listed, but I can't tell if that has to do with the maps.

It is not about making a single mistake or two in the game. Yes, it sucks if that mistakes costs you the game, and players should concentrate on eliminating mistakes which might cost them their game, but single mistakes can always happen because most of the players are still human and nobody is perfect. But if mistakes starts accumulating in every single game being played, then this is just bad.

Had to leave during the first Symbol vs Harstem. Glad to see he made it, but at this rate he's going to get rekt in group stages unless he was just jet-lagged today. Given his recent form I'm doubting it
At least he ended up evening the score a little against his old rival Seed.
