As always, please contact me through skype when you have a new date for his match.

We didn't have all the details at that time. All we knew was Jaedong contacted the Player Coordinator and said he has some personal issue and cannot make match 1 hour before it started. Ryung was given all the details we had at the time. We did not want to waste his time so we said he could leave we will be in touch because JD had some issue. The other player was just a no show and gave no contact to us. Therefore automatic forfeit.

Which you then reversed a day later. You can understand why that does not come across well.

What? We didn't forfeit Jaedong. We forfeited Sacsri. We told Ryung he can go and we will be in contact about match. There was no reversal sir.

This tournament is a fucking joke. Constant delays and absolutely no information given to viewers of the reasons, horrible downtime between matches, sub-par casters and observing, retarded scheduling, who tunes in for two bo5s or a single bo7 in a night? Only plus is that the actual dingit player works better than twitch. Keep the player scrap everything else.
|
This tournament isn't having much luck, at the very least.
@Elche, the player doesn't work properly either (at least over here). Twitch works much better. Ryung vs. Jaedong is up according to the calendar, anyone know what happened there?

Be very careful with statements you make publicly like that. We have the Skype logs showing that you did indeed forfeit Jaedong due to a personal situation he was having. Ryung showed up for his match on time. Jaedong did not. You told our player this and said he was done You then reversed the decision 5 hours later (decision made at 7am, reversal at 12pm KST) which confused and annoyed our player. This was further confirmed in the tournament in-game chat by a second ASL staffer. Now looking at these logs, at best, you used inaccurate language when talking to our player. At worst, you made an irresponsible claim which you later had to reverse. There is no forfeit, because you changed your decision, but to say that there was no reversal of your decision is false. Our player will compete, the match will happen, but I do not appreciate efforts to white-wash an administrative fumble on your part. If this kind of thing happens again, don't give a player a walkover which you then have to take back, ask about reschedule immediately. You throw players right out of their competitive mindset with things like this. Especially against an opponent like Jaedong, preparation is needed, don't jerk players around please.

TB laying the smack down. If more than 5 people gave a shit about this tournament this would be exciting.

I don't know who you have been talking to or what authority they claim to have But Sabre (ASL Director and founder) told Ryung in game that he can go and we will sort match details out later and be in contact with him. That evening Sabre asked Maru Kim (MaSa) to translate to Jaedong so we can officially determine if a rematch was valid or not. If you wish to discuss this with Sabre personally. Feel free to Skype him at Sabre24q7 or email him Sabre[@]ASLstarcraft[.]com In fact I highly recommend contacting him because this situation is getting out of hand and it seems you are getting your information from a bad source.
Thank you

Someone put up incorrect date. We are still scheduling. But its going to be January 1st at 14:00 PST most likely.

I know there has been some issues with communication, and as nobody outside of that communication knows the whole truth, I won't share my opinion as it could be based on wrong/missing facts.
BUT, one thing I will say is that the tournament has potential for some great stories and great games. It sounds like whatever issues were present need to be solved, even though that probably means either one or both parties need to meet in a compromise. Sounds unfair? Agreed, but forfeiting yet another player like this will really ruin the tournament, especially a profile like Jaedong.
I know it must suck for Ryung, if he is the victim of all of this, but as a viewer I would lose a lot of interest in the tournament if another forfeit happened, especially if based on misunderstandings. If viewers lose interest, so would the gains of winning, in terms of reputation, exposure etc.
I am hoping for parties to acknowledge each others issues with the other, and then agree to move on for the tournament's sake.
(one thing though ASL, please update dates, times etc. on Liquipedia, threads and other pages, as these wrong dates pose another big risk of losing the audience. I myself waited for an hour last night to watch the games, to no avail).
Good luck with the tournament.

thewhiskey you are a kind, smart forum member of the community.
There was a good amount of miss communication. I think we have cleared most of it up. End result is the Match will be played on Jan 1st 14:00 PST (adding to calendar now) And there were a few ADMIN blunders who gave out information that was incorrect. And frankly they did not have that level of authority to give out in the first place.
Out of 32 players only 4 have been disqualified, but the problem is 2 of them have been during playoffs. That is a killer. I always find it really hard to delete an event once you submit it. But at the very least we can just post in thread canceled and hopefully that will help.

We already reached the compromise for the reasons you gave. We didnt want Jaedong to have to forfeit due to a personal problem and we didnt want to deny the viewers what could be a Classic match up (see what I did there? Cos Ryung beat Classic in the GSL qualifiers, BADUMTISH). The problem we had was what was communicated to us.
We've since heard an explanation from ASL that explains why the left hand didnt seem to know what the right hand is doing and are satisfied with the response, so as far as I'm concerned the matter is settled.

Glad to hear things are worked out. I really liked the tournament so far. Production value was good, caster were great and the player pool made up some very enjoyable games. The Octashape client worked very well, expect for a few, minor exceptions. The lack of communication for the last few broadcast days was annoying, indeed. All this negativ feedback in here is a riddle for me. My personel experience was good, expect the minor exceptions. Everyone has some trouble from time to time

Sad News everyone. Journey did not show up to his match. We were forced to give PartinG a bye according to rules. Sorry we couldn't bring you a good match today. But lets look forward to Ryung vs Jaedong match on Jan 1st. New years StarCraft!
