wow banner bias much.
I would like to see Maru win even tho I've never been such a huge fan. His TvP manages to always doubt myself though and I do want him to play TRUE in the finals, so go Maru!

Why Maru does not look like his age..

Pffft, why would I want Terran to win? They just won the last two Premier events! It's time for another Protoss champion since Zerg has also won one more recently.

Now watch him win the season..

It's terran who needs "another champion", not protoss.

fun story
When I made the banner it was only half the banner it is now (mirrored part wasn't there). But the 'half banner's' width was too small, so I just mirrored the original banner and pasted it next to the original. Et Voila
|
|
top banner is the creepiest thing i've ever seen
wtf?
|
My crazy prediction. Let's do this Classic!
Maru <Frost> Classic Maru <Merry Go Round> Classic Maru <Waystation> Classic Maru <Habitation Station> Classic Maru <Alterzim Stronghold> Classic Maru <King Sejong Station> Classic Maru <Overgrowth> Classic
Classic wins 4-3!

Haha true that. I do have my hopes pinned on him but it just makes me sad how much the times have changed because my love for SKT was synonymous with my love for Terran and SKT's contribution in all that is terran. Either way Flash's recent games have made me hopeful yet again but another favorite Terran(read MMA) always gives me wings and takes them away.

Personally, I think Maru is going to come to really play: 4 - 2 Maru is my pick and it's going to be somewhat one-sided.
|
I think Maru will do a lot of 1-1-1 openings, and that he will win 4-1.
|
|
Late flight back from Sweden, I guess.

Good, so he doesn't curse Maru more than he already has.

It's well past time for Artosis to put down that damn deck of cards.

As much as I want a terran in the finals, I think classic is too solid overall. Gonna be a great series though me thinks!

He was casting HS at Dreamhack, so probably not at home yet or just unavailable to cast.

Maru would be better in the finals if for no other reason that we need him at Blizzcon, and right now, he doesn't leave Korea..

Kill some sentries.

Time to put down a shit ton of gates.
|
Looks terrible for Maru this game
|
What the...why did Maru go to the ramp there? He could've tried for the expo and probably picked off more units after Classic came down than he got in that fight.
|
|
oh jeez. Classic is so ahead

Wow, perfect medivac-forcefield-rescue counterplay there.

I start to believe that Maru is really not feel well.

widow mines ? isn't widow mines like bad vs colossi ?

Holy shit classic... that blink was so on point and well timed.
|
Not a fan of Classic's simcity at home. 3 important and unrelated tech structures right next to each other in a spot that isn't a corner.
|
pretty much the perfect game by classic so far, will be hard to lose this one from here
|
Is Classic playing this too safe? I'd prefer if he was putting on some pressure than sitting back.

Hmm, he had a sizeable army with 2 Colossus vs no Vikings. Anyway, it's done now.

Really clean engagement from maru, he exploited classic's positionning very well.

I've learned never to underestimate toss once they have storm though..

Well Classic not keeping up in the rest of the game... whew Maru is cathing up and overtaking... maybe dt's can do something?

Sick fight win by Maru, too bad he can't push his advantage.

still 4 vikings against 4 colossus aint gonna do anything. Maru losing all the vikings is the key to his defeat imo

CC first into 3 rax concussive aggression vs kind of fast 3 nexus. Maru did almost no damage with his first two attacks and got behind.
Still stayed in for the longer game and took a great engagement at the north xelnaga of Frost, great positioning with vikings and ghosts.
Went into standard long game TvP, Maru did some nice harassment but meanwhile Classic crushed him with his main army.
Was a good game!

Classic took a a fast 3rd while Maru went for the same open as g2. He lost lot of unit in the early game due to FF without dealing damage, thus puting him behind. Then it goes macro game, both 3/3 and 4 bases. Maru take an incredible fight and went 170 army to 120. But since Classic was so much ahead before, he remaxed with a huge bank and Maru lost his vikings in the process. Then it went to a slowly and painful death against 3/3 5 bases protoss on cross po on Frost. You see how it goes usually.

Great series so far.

Maru looks concerned

Maru can still take da series!

Maru needs to realize he's gotta play solid cause classic has so few holes in his game. He's so solid you really gotta be on your game against him.

People keep saying that maru is the best terran in the world, but I think Taeja is better. Maybe classic is way better than any of the players taeja has faced...Maru army positioning and decision making seems to be a weakness.

How was Protoss outplayed all game? Classic's build choice got him an advantage in early game?
Maru sniped tech and a Nexus and I don't know what happened maybe he relaxed or had his attention elsewhere but he still needs to deal with Classic's army.
Also that PDD drop was sick, Gumiho showed a game on Whirlwind once doing it, so sick

Main armies engaged. But, Maru's Vikings were outside the party and showed up too late for the dance.

It's hard to compare Maru to Taeja, Maru is only in Korea whereas Taeja is bashing Koreans that travel a lot.

Taeja has better lategame TvP, Maru is a god at relentless MMM midgame aggression and trading, although I am seeing him play more for later stages of late, which is a pity as it's been both effective for him and damn entertaining
Controlling MMM and splitting and kiting is different from controlling that plus Vikings and Ghosts, Taeja is definitely better at that than Maru and indeed anyone.

Either way it's hard to say anything for sure, so i don't care much for comparing two Terrans from different environments. No matter how good you are, winning a tournament without dropping a map is impressive. That's Nestea level.

equal harass opportunities there. 1 protoss unit gets 6 worker kills and gets away. small terran army gets 3 probe kills and dies to 1 spell.

Uhh, what the hell is maru thinking. Seems like he can't handle the oracles even with turrets.

So sick harass and defense by Classic, really careful but powerful Oracle movements.

I think they should further boost Oracle speed and acc.

I wish the likes of Taeja and to a lesser degree HerO weren't continually dismissed when they both made Ro4s in Korea, do better than many of the current GSL crop when they are at foreign events and both acquitted themselves well enough in PL.

It's easy to look as though you're in top form when you're against inferior opponents.
Taeja hasn't played anything like what Maru faces in KESPA Code S Protoss players.
Taeja isn't up to that level. When it comes down to play at Blizzcon Taeja will prove this. He isn't up to this level, not even close. He wins because he plays in a lot of tournaments, not because those tournaments have competition that are up to his level.

Damn, wp from maru. His control is insane!

Every time I watch Maru he does something where I'm like "NO WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" and then he just wins anyway.... This guy is just too fucking good :D

Sweet old school play from Maru. This has been a good series. Time for my 4 - 2 Maru prediction to come true.

Maru with the sick riposte..
I love how he poked at three different areas, found a weakness and then just drove him into that weakness. Protoss can't fight in several small groups I feel and Maru seemed to have taken advantage of that. The amount of damage that drop did, beautiful.

Pretty much go into lategame PvT where Protoss has the advantage. Problem is preventing Maru from killing you before that.

why wasting money on phoenix instead of cannons on the ledge of the main base? he should have like 6 cannon and be saved instead of using phoenix to kill medivacs, classic decision on this map was really bad.

By the way, I feel that Koreans in foreign lands aren't as strong as Koreans in Korea.

No fucking idea what you guys are on about. Nowhere do races have to have equal (whatever the fuck that means in SC2) harass opportunities at all points in the game. More to the point, stop the BS quibbling, please. It's a great series. Enjoy it.

Let's be honest though. As comparatively weaker the competition is, even Maru/TY/Bbyong/Flash would be proud of winning a tournament without dropping a SINGLE map.

Not just Taeja but all these 'weak' players like Bomber and Jaedong did pretty fucking well vs the best the Kr region had to offer last time round.
Tbh the WCS system this year sucks without the season finals for this reason IMO, plus weighted things way too heavily to foreign events. I mean HerO's been on a monster slump and can conceivably make Blizzcon, something is wrong with that IMO and I use him as an example because I'm a huge fanboy and still think it's BS

Well tbh also winning a long term tournament like WCS or GSL is TOTALLY diff from winning a weekend tourney like dh or iem.

For sure it's nothing to scoff at, certainly code s level. I'm fairly certain most code A dropout level terrans (Flash, Fantasy, Keen, Bbyong, Cure etc) has better vP records than that

Pretty much agreed. However good taeja might be it is better to compare their performances based on the quality of their opponents. Since winning the OSL last year Maru has always made top 8 against guys who no one can deny are THE best. Whosoever's been the best protoss at the time Maru has beaten him or been equal with be it Dear, Zest or maybe now even Classic. That kind of consistency in the GSL is beyond what we have seen from anyone except Soulkey. Would anyone disagree that if Maru went out for each of these fun weekend tourneys he would hands down kick ass just like taeja?

Probably. It's a shame we don't get to see them play in nearly as many tournaments as we do Taeja.

Of course. No one is debating that Taeja is really good (at least I don't think so), but I too question the validity of calling him the best in the world, period.
That said, this discussion should probably stop now.

TaeJa is no doubt really good player but tbh the players he face are way easier than kespa protoss players. MC is decent but compared to players like Classic, sOs, Rain, Zest etc he is just mediocre protoss. TaeJa would be good enough to win any of the players I feel but he wouldn't be dominant and I would favour KR region protoss players over him, like against any other terran besides Maru because I'm Maru biased. Maru's decision making is off, that's correct but usually he wins his games with brute force even though he choose bad fights and builds (He has become way better with his decisions and builds after he joined JinAir tho)

Such a crock of shit, disregarding his dismantling of Korean Protoss players on numerous occasions in the recent past and he looks in close to his best shape ever of late. As far as I'm aware he hasn't beaten a WCS KR protoss this year. He played sOs and Dear and lost both times according to aligulac. Taeja is entirely outside of the 'real' competition and just farms tournaments with poor attendance, 'best of the rest' kind of thing. That was what, Blizzcon 2013? Not just Taeja but all these 'weak' players like Bomber and Jaedong did pretty fucking well vs the best the Kr region had to offer last time round. Tbh the WCS system this year sucks without the season finals for this reason IMO, plus weighted things way too heavily to foreign events. I mean HerO's been on a monster slump and can conceivably make Blizzcon, something is wrong with that IMO and I use him as an example because I'm a huge fanboy and still think it's BS That's IEM world championship and ROG.
Jaedong has done pretty well last WCS season, but he's been the exception. Overall, AM and EU got pretty much creamed every finals event, the level just isn't there in EU/AM. MC doing so well in EU pretty much proves that.
And yes, the WCS system is the ultimate suck and blizzcon will be a total disappointment.

I'm just hoping Classic wins and then soO advances and then gets 2nd place with Classic winning so we get yet another new Protoss champ

Phoenix require babysitting and continually accurate clicking to even attack anything on the ground, Maru fails with a proxy to do anything = a move comments after.

I'm really sad for Maru right now. Classic played well, sure, but we needed that Terran presence in a GSL finals.

Maru blew that last game completely. That delayed Armory, those delayed upgrades, were far too much of a disadvantage.

I feel like Protoss can secure their third so easily, more easily than Terran can. This leads to Protoss just having more shit. Throughout the series Classic just got his third up first and had more shit.

wow you just proved that Protoss is imba. If T goes 5 rax, there is no transition. Also if Zerg goes 5 hatch zergling there is no transition. 5 gate blink pressure is confirmed broken.

which is natural, because that's exactly the Terrans qualifying through this season's Code S, no?

some of the Terran numbers are skewed just because of the other regions. Taeja, Polt, and Bomber would be regulars in Code S, whereas really only San and Jaedong are that level from the other races (and of course JD randomly loses to just about anyone).

Wanted Maru to win that one. I guess soO finally winning a GSL is also a pretty good story though.

That match started it, but I've found him pretty infuriating overall, both in terms of playstyle and players he has eliminated from tournaments. He eliminated Flying in WCS Season 1 for example, possibly causing his retirement

Maru was just recovered from sickness and an ongoing wrist pain, part of the reason he wasn't as good in Proleague and today's series i think. I agree he was a bit sloppy this time. Throwing away part of units from force field in early game 1 twice was not his usual play. Didn't save the reapers, all these are not the mistakes he usually make.
Not to take anything away from Classic though, i think he prepared really well againts this matchup, Opting to go for phoenix turned out to be really good.

Haven't watched a single gsl finals this year and don't plan to start now.

its incredible to think about that maru has reached the playoffs 4 times in a row.

Only caught the last two games but from what I watched the better player won. I wished our Terran hope would have advanced but Classic just looked on a whole other level.

Much more importantly than that, Classic has joined Rain's shit list for disproving Terran is BL/infestors though.

I feel so dumb. I said before match several times that Classic will win. Still I made bet (after reading TL Preview) that Maru wins. Even after making that bet I said Classic will win. I feel so fucking dumb right now.
Thank you TL team again predicting wrong. I should have trusted myself after predicting B C D ro16 WCS EU groups right.

Honestly, do you guys think Aligulacs rankings/predictor is a good indicator of who will win? Aligulac is extremely useful for viewing the recent match history of players but SC2 is so volatile and depending on the match-up and a few other factors (slumps or who the opponents are) I don't believe it to be a good indicator of who will win.
For example, Forgg is ranked #5 and is the highest ranked TvT player. But if you look at his match history since April, against Terran he is 4-4 against MMA, 3-4 against Happy, and has lost to both Innovation and Jjakji. If you use the predictor he is favored against Flash in a BO3 73% to 27% and in a BO5 78% to 22%. Would people honestly believe that Forgg would beat Flash in a BOX series? After seeing Flashs TvT against Bbyong in Shoutcraft I would imagine the odds are against Forgg even though Forgg is ranked #5 overall and Flash is ranked #30 overall.
I understand this is one match-up and only one player but I'm using it to argue my case on why Aligulac isn't the best indicator of who should be favored or not favored. In no way am I bashing Aligulac, it is a very well put together site that contains extremely useful information.

It's ok. I don't take it for a god or anything. As long as you keep in mind what it does and how it does it, it's fine. The biggest problem is the users rather than the database. A lot of people just use aligulac as the truth without really thinking it through.

Aligulac gets predictions right more often than not. Not near 100% accuracy, naturally, but I think it's a better predictor than most would-be experts on TL and Reddit.

Do you know/have a percentage of how accurate it is? It would also be interesting to see how accurate it is for players in the same region (like Proleague) versus players from several regions (such as a travel event like MLG/DH).

Aligulac as it is, is a GIANT base of matches. With some clusterization algorithms and a touch of machine learning, vast data could be turned into great predictors. You also need skilled people, that's borderline PhD material right there.

That's interesting. How many times has Aligulac predicted the outcome correctly? It can be calculated by Aligulac themselves... then they can implement a meta-predictor for their predictor, and... O.o ...

I went to bed before Game 6. I'm so pleased to see Classic go through. He looked the better player over the course of the series, although Maru did play a little sloppy and looked a little off his A game.
Classic vs True would be an interesting finals. An all SKT not so much.

I checked out the results and as expected I see protoss won in Frost and Alterzim. These two maps need to be removed, period.
I don't intend to watch the series.

It's such a shame that Taeja won Dreamhack. It over shadows the fact that terran have been getting destroyed in tournaments this entire calendar year.

I don't intend to watch the series.
You know Frost has the most balanced stats with the largest sample size in the pool right? PvT is also at a perfect 50% (48-48) on Alterzim.
Maru could have won the Frost game if not for a bad engagement in the lategame. On Alterzim he went for a risky proxy reaper that failed badly iirc.

Why do Protosses use the Oracle into Phoenix Colossus build so often? I agree it's a viable strat (somewhat), but personally I don't see any advantage it has over conventional Colossus builds or even Templar builds.
And that Alterzim game Maru got countered so bad. He didn't scout him in the first position + Classic wasn't greedy as Maru had hoped... Also the Hellion drops didn't accomplish anything either.

Next question. Classic and Maru are comparable given that their ratings are primarily based on ProLeague and WCS KR results. KingKong clearly doesn't fit in with that. I hope you're being facetious... I thought you were being facetious too o_o. Somehow I don't think Classic being statistically favored was the reason why people were upset. Aligulac gets predictions right more often than not. Not near 100% accuracy, naturally, but I think it's a better predictor than most would-be experts on TL and Reddit. 100% what? if i say someone is 80% how can i be 100% accurate? i didnt say anything

Talk about stating the obvious and then trying to take credit for it. lol, whats tyhe balance like? is it even bad at all? also hope you enjoyed the 2.3 time sthe money on pinnacle for a what you seem to claim was almost a lock. if you truly had this much edge over everyone you would have infinite money by now

huge map, they counter drop pretty well (combined with observers). phoenix are very fast, can pick of stray units, scouts and do some average harass aswell
they trade cost effective with vikings and will murder a large portion of your army when you do not engage and try to run (as seen) - actually it happens quite often for a terran to reposition and regroup/move around - chances you get a few units are high.
long story short: the bigger the map, the better phoenix become

"Supposed to win" as in I would prefer Maru to have won, as it would have made for a better storyline. Of course Classic deserved the win, as he played better than Maru.

You don't think code B terran -> GSL champion protoss is a good storyline?
