That's bold. I actually agree with you, though I think Snute will take 1 game. 4-5 weeks ago, I'd have given Snute an edge, especially since he beat MMA and MMA also had some other losses, but he has been on fire recently, and has avenged the losses to Snute twice. Snute on the other hand has looked a little out of sorts lately.
- MMA is at ~ 43.73 % chances for top 16 points of 2014 ~ 62.71 % of the time MMA wins and their chances go up to ~ 55.50 %. ~ 37.29 % of the time MMA loses and their chances go down to ~ 23.93 %. ------------------------------------------------- - Snute is at ~ 24.00 % chances for top 16 points of 2014 ~ 37.29 % of the time Snute wins and their chances go up to ~ 39.86 %. ~ 62.71 % of the time Snute loses and their chances go down to ~ 14.57 %.
- San is at ~ 99.96 % chances for top 16 points of 2014 ~ 62.65 % of the time San wins and their chances go up to ~ 100.00 %. ~ 37.35 % of the time San loses and their chances go down to ~ 99.90 %. ------------------------------------------------- - Welmu is at ~ 21.80 % chances for top 16 points of 2014 ~ 37.35 % of the time Welmu wins and their chances go up to ~ 37.33 %. ~ 62.65 % of the time Welmu loses and their chances go down to ~ 12.54 %.

jjakji, with MMA a close second
why would you cheer for MMA. That's even worse than being a Startale fan

The guys that did the predictions are mostly rookies, so their predictions will likely come true. It takes a few weeks before the curse kicks in.
My first prediction was Jaedong making it to ro16 GSL after getting a Code S seed. He then Bombed out and never made it past the qualifiers ever again and eventually ran to WCS NA.

Not sure if you could call it a curse though.

It feels longer doesn't it? Rest assured I would have bet on Mvp beating Naniwa, Parting and Squirtle.

maybe Squirtle after he beat Parting but I don't know man those two were pretty unbeatable in PvT

I'm only good at predicting things mid series. Everything else is basically a coin toss. (except Soo vs Parting where I got the exact map score and exactly how Parting got his 1 map).
hm, don't particularly care for either player but i'm still hyped as fuck for this. good job ESL. also of course high level TvZ tends to be sexy in general.

It also leaves Snute in a really uncomfortable spot. He is a macro guy, he does not like to cheese and his late game has always been his strength. If MMA can just demolish him in straight up macro, what the hell does he do?

4th on the way, he only microed 2 places (once the mine was burrowed) but did it at exactly the right time (scanning when his drop spots the army coming back to the main, attacking the 3rd, microing his drop then retreating his main army, all timed perfectly)

Keep going. Heavy Rain was the hardest map to stop that. MMA has certain patterns when he does his mult tiask stuff. He likes hitting in diagonal positions and then in counter clockwise rotations.

Very misleading that Apollo keeps talking about Zerglings in a way that reflects that he thinks they each take up 1 supply while they in fact take up 0.5...

These games are just so high level, I wonder if Snute run his drone up to the north base on purpose to let MMA find it and kill it with his drops and make MMA think that Snute was going monster eco and that an immenent attack was unlikely

MMA is really trying to mindgame Snute on this map to work around the problem that reapers are terrible on this map

To be fair, SSC was hardly the most stacked event ever. This is why I don't like using tournament placements as absolute indications of ability. Who you win against matters more than how many games you win. You can win a load of smaller online cups and still not be as good as someone who never even reached a Ro4.

yeah, fast banes on creep, moving in the middle of a bunch of lings. He just goes in and BAM, all the banes are gone

Sounds pretty much like my TvZ except my marines go BAM
38 drones in first 10 min is huge, even though MMA spent a lot of helions doing that. I woud just continue making them and trade as much as I can but then again, I am no MMA.
snute scouts the second factory, but doesn't prepare any defenses against the helions. I just don't understand. Why would you sacrifice the overload if you aren't going to use the information that you get.

factory in such a position? If Snute really thought that then he deserved the loss so bad
He probably did think that, hence the bane nest. Only building that would really move around and maybe end up in that position would be barracks for a tech lab to make banshees. But factory would never be flown there, just makes no sense...

The factory in that particular position? There is no way a pro player of snute's caliber should make the mistake.

To be honest.. Saying that a player is still in it after just losing 38 drones because his creep spread is good... Doesn't require a progamer to realise that such things are pretty much game enders.

not really surprising tbh. MMA is superior to Snute imo. Also, Snute not preparing for bf hellions. Didn't he realize that there's more hellions than usual? I missed the OL scout part so can't say much there.

People always bet against Korean Terrans in these situations. People thought that TLO was going to crush Mvp as well back in WCS Season 1 last year as well.
You know I dislike the whole Korean domination like most but it is fair.
Those Koreans like MMA und jjakji, they sacrificed their whole future for this game. It's their life unlike westerners who go to school or attend university. It's pretty obvious that someone who spends 24/7 on SC2 beats someone with only half their dedication

Exactly. It was really confusing to me that people were actually calling Snute and Vortix favorites just because of a few Vasacast and Ro16 games... MMA and Jjajki are super elite players that turn up even more when given time to prepare for a single opponent

Yeah, Vortix defeated MMA, Jjakji at Vasacast and MMA again at WCS ro16, because he is not actually good at Starcraft, your logic is absoulutely flawless here...

Apparently this game isn't called Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm for foreigner fans. It is called Korea vs the World. Korean players practicing hard and showing great skill on stream is bad for the game somehow. And every mistake Korean makes is a huge/unforgivable blunder while anything foreigner does is the most genius move ever that is going to revolutionize the game.

I just want to see the best players and the best Starcraft. This foreigner vs Korean etc is nice for the hype but ultimately, the game is about a single player vs a single player. Their country of origin is irrelevant, IMO; only the quality of their play matters.

It's not one sided because it's not just one player winning - it's several, hard-working individuals who happen to hail from the same nation. Splitting the scene into us and them is, if not racist, at least overly patriotic. Why should I root for a "foreign" douchebag like Naniwa over a korean sweetheart like Stardust? Because "koreans win too much"? I say Stardust isn't winning enough. And then I root for him. Simple as that.

It was going up in those days, but sAviOr's case was special, since prior to him it was mostly Terran domination at the top, and he just rose as a god-tier Terran slayer apart from being probably the 2nd best player in the game's history overall.

Those Koreans like MMA und jjakji, they sacrificed their whole future for this game. It's their life unlike westerners who go to school or attend university. It's pretty obvious that someone who spends 24/7 on SC2 beats someone with only half their dedication
Dislike korean domination? Why? They have been producing the best players for 15 years, it's not like any surprise or so that even the exiled, bad, non-GSL-qualified koreans are better than foreigners
I still maintain that the internet drama fiends aren't even fans to begin with.

Yes, worst is a lot of hype leading in to poor games in comparison and then disappointment. We get that a fair bit.

Most news couldn't even spell or pronounce Jjakji's name right. Artosis called Jjakji as a 0% chance to ever win that GSL. Don't think so, he had 2 Collossi in the orange, let them regenerater, put them into the red and then left them alive again. I think, he could have gotten a better engagement, if he would have killed those of earlier. San did a good job of always pulling them back though.
I think Welmu sent too much zealots to flank. Zealots were stucked coz there were too much of them. Without that I think Welmu would have won that fight.

Koreans seem to win more outside of group stages in WCS. Maybe the group stages are creating idiosyncratic variance that keeps the best players from making it to the later stages of the tournament.

It's quite simple.
When you only have to prepare for a single opponent, the Korean practice style really shines.
When you're practicing for all match ups, you're basically almost in ladder mode. That's where foreigners can compete better, because for most of them the ladder is their primary practice tool.

Pretty sure 3 foreigners in the Ro8 is better than none
tons of more koreans in AM...AND arguably more skilled koreans at that
I don't see how that changes the fact
Why not? It's easier for euros to get more foreigners in the top 8 when they have to compete against less koreans overall. It's very relevant to that fact. What if a tourney had 1 korean out of 32, but that one korean made top 8. Are you going to brag that 7 foreigners made top 8?
Hurray, WCS EU and WCS NA and all that you see are koreans. Its absolutely not their fault. They are just using the possibilities that blizzard gave them. But for my as a viewer, its just boring and absolutely not entertaining. Blizzard is simply destroying the local scenes (well in fact, US is already nearly complete destroyed, and EU is on same road). The same korean faces you see in all the other majors you see in the WCS EU and WCS NA finals. There is no diversity. No local flavour. No story. Nothing special. Nearly nothing to identify with. I know, the answer to this post will be "but the high skill....". I don t care. The missing of a restict region lock is destroying the fun for me as a viewer and it is poison for the development of the EU and NA scene.

Snute and Welmu didn't have to beat a korean to advance, and Vortix had to beat MVP(he's a god, but not at the top of his game). Every NA group had 2 or more Koreans. I'm just pointing this out, EU is no doubt stronger than NA. as evidenced by the fact that even though they didn't have to, Snute beat JJakji and Vortix beat MMA

Not brag about it, but confirm that it is a mostly EU dominated tournament.

Yeah, I think this is the reason
Idk, a lot of Koreans say they just practiced ladder and occasionally say thanks to X and Y for helping them out.Innovation actually complained about the lack of practice partners for his group.
Only guy who explicitly said recently that he focuses not only on the player but also the map is Flash who said in his interview that he did 70 practice games on 1 map that he was supposed to play against Rain.
So I guess PL guys practice that way but not sure about other Koreans.... For example Innovation is in Korea, MMA is in EU, those two will have hard time practicing even though they are on the same team...

Dude, your 3 foreign hopes got DEMOLISHED in the round of 8. There is nothing to feel good about.
I never said anything about 'feeling good', but it's still 3 to none.
EU talent pool is 10x that of NA. If anything 3 to 1(ONE) should be a failure.
There is no ONE though. Polt is korean, if you count him as NA because of his current stay there, you simultaniously make MC, Jjakji, Patience, YoDa, First and Stardust european.

But Europe claimed ForGG. Even the pros credit laddering against ForGG has helped them improved.

You could also add ForGG. He is basically french right now, considering how long has he been in Europe :D

I actually always thought Select was a Korean who moved to US when he was a kid or something like that.. Always looked at him like Worf, the guy who was never truly with his people :D

It is a question of definition nonetheless. At what point is Polt no longer 'Korean'?
As soon as the players no longer consider themselves to no longer be "Korean" imo. If they consider themselves to be American who are we to say they aren't? For instance Polt. I'm not sure, but I think he doesn't want to remain in the US for too long after completing his studies. SeleCT on the other hand is here to stay. It's a thin and blurry line idk

Hmm well if he's moving towards citizenship or is committing to staying here even if suddenly WCS America no longer existed then by all means Captain America! :D

I am a computer programmer, I´d give my right hand to write "Pro gamer" on my business card instead. Sadly it won´t happen. Is it illegal to lie in your visa application ^^ ?

If you have Korean heritage, Koreans will consider you Korean no matter what. Polt will become American as soon as Caucasian Americans look at him as an American. (which they don't) As long as ignorance and bigotry like FOX news is still alive and well in America, all "colored" people will be still treated as second class citizens. Which means majority of them will never remove, XXXXXXX-American from their identity.
Funny thing. I predicted that the foreigners will go 3-0(well Snute got 1 game lol) in the previous article so it was nice to see my guess validated XD Never beat against the Korean more times than not lol.

called it from when that article was written lol It's not surprising though. Koreans excel at BOx games and it's not like they were facing some code B Koreans.
