The bottom line is both Polt and Marus strength lie in their mirco but Maru is more mechanically gifted and ballsy. If polt was in code s with these toss studying him and preparing sniper builds against him i seriously doubt hed have as much success as say maru whos just flat out fast, talented, and ballsy enough to proxy two rax to close a series out lol

Polt has always been more succesful in code S than Maru. When Maru became good Polt has switched region.

Marus just a kid lets be honest did we expect 14 year old maru to win blizzcon? I have nothing against polt hands down hes the smartest terran playing but in korea especially the way the metas developed how much better players are than they were before i think korean terrans have to be mechanically tip top to compete. and i think polt isnt quite as fast. he makes up for it with his smarts and mirco i dont believe thats enough to to be winning gsls and osl as opposed to winning wcs na. i give it to maru hes doing this at a time when terrans the weakest race out of three in the hardest region and hes not even in his prime as a pro gamer

this kid is all sorts of special not to take anything away from polt. i tip my hat to maru that were comparing a sixteen year old kids performances against someone like polt whos proven it all and still managed to be relevant.

Polt destroyed Rain, Classic, and Stardust at IEM. His games against HerO were amazing and the series could have gone either way. Polt has no fear of Korean Protosses. Maru is good too, but he's just a kid.

All the men have already left Korea (Bomber, Polt, Taeja, Jajji, MMA, Mvp, Ryung, Heart, aLive, etc.). Watch WCS EU or WCS NA if you want to see the best Terrans. Some of the better Protoss players also migrated, as well as Jaedong and Hyunn. To be honest, WCS Korea might not be the strongest region anymore.

Are you seriously? On average from 1-32, you really trying to argue EU and NA is stronger?

Not the whole thing, just the cream of the crop. WCS KR is definitely the highest average skill, but maybe the best players in other regions may be better than the best players in WCS KR -- due to migration. All those guys I mentioned were champions before they migrated. If you keep stealing all the champions, eventually the quality of WCS KR is bound to be lower. For example, Dear won the last GSL, and now plays for a European team. It wouldn't be very surprising if he were to switch to WCS EU at some point.

When you talk about the strength of the region, you have to take the average of the top 32. Top 8 NA/EU is definitely competitive with Top 8 KR but KR still has the edge. And below that, there is a huge gap.

But you can't just take the top because that would be saying that Switzerland was the strongest country in tennis just because Federer was ranked #1.

I'm saying the other regions are more likely to produce the Global Champion, regardless of the average skill of the top 32.

You said 'To be honest, WCS Korea might not be the strongest region anymore.'...

The strongest region is the one that is the most difficult to win. The most difficult region to win is going to be the one with the best tip-top players. Who cares which region has better round of 36 guys who will just get knocked out and have almost no chance of winning.

Terran was in pretty good shape when Maru won OSL.

But relative to the time Polt won I didnt follow the scene as closely as I do now but I hear that time period was the terran golden age. Maru was first terran champion in Korea since MVP two raxed Squirtle in the GSL. In the past TEN gsls and 2 osls since MVP Maru is the only terran champion.

Mvp only 2 raxed in the last game. He used a lot of cool timings and played macro games too.

Yes thats why I said he two raxed to win not two raxed in every game.

The talent drain is an ongoing process. Foreign money slowly buys the most prestigious players available. Jaedong, Innovation, and Dear were poached from Kespa teams.

They do. For now. But it would not surprise me at all if they switch regions the first time they have a bad day and drop to Code A/B. It's too bad foreign teams can't create their own talent by learning from the Korean team culture, instead of just poaching Koreans that have already been trained.

The strongest region is the one that is the most difficult to win. The most difficult region to win is going to be the one with the best tip-top players. Who cares which region has better round of 36 guys who will just get knocked out and have almost no chance of winning.

And KR IS still the hardest to win. Players are much closer in skill and upsets can happen (guys like innovation didn't even make it to final 32. With NA/EU, the top Koreans almost cruise to Ro8.

And again, strongest region is not how you define it. Or the strongest region in tennis would be Spain because a player would need to beat Nadal to win. China is still the strongest region in badminton even though a Malayian is ranked #1.

Either use of the term "strongest" in phrase containing "strongest region" can be correct (highest peak skill level vs. highest average skill level). That's why people normally define their terms before arguing.

Can't believe people think WCS Korea might not be the hardest o_o. A lot of Code A groups will probably be better than the RO4 of WCS EU.

It's really just Korea against Korea anyway. 15 of the 16 Global finalists were Korean. The one foreigner, who was rank 16, was eliminated in the first round. I'm not sure if we are really making any progress in improving the level of foreigner play. That won't happen unless foreign teams institute the same type of culture and rules as the Kespa teams.

But it doesn't start at the team level. It begins with the culture of the region and ladder. And that is hard to change. Again, I am sure foreigners can use more strict and efficient practice, but to reach Koreans level, it is not just the team. It is like saying if Chinese basketball teams train like NBA, they would be equal.

Yes? What is your point? Rain lost to Polt in a close 3-2 series... herO won the previous 2 IEMs... Did you watch those?

Either use of the term "strongest" in phrase containing "strongest region" can be correct (highest peak skill level vs. highest average skill level). That's why people normally define their terms before arguing.

herO is a recent two times IEM champion. :p

Well NA EU SHOULD have a better shot only if you group them against Korea. And even then Id give the edge to Korea. NA and EU are continents Korea is one country and they still have the edge. And the Chinese contingent thats in America is to consider as well. Hey man, Im not Korean I would love to see EU and NA compete but the fact is Korea is the starcraft mecca we should all be happy that we can seriously have this discussion because this is the first time ever where it even merits discussion. That in and of itself is a victory but lets not get ahead of ourselves here...

You have a good point. But I wouldn't want to underestimate the power of a proper practice environment. Naniwa got two back-to-back GSL round of 8 finishes when he was living and training in Korea. Huk also was at his very best when he lived and trained in Korea.

But I wonder if many foreign pros would be willing to submit to the rigor of Korean team house culture for more than a few months at a time -- but rather day-in and day-out for years. Maybe not. I guess that's what you mean. You could be right.

Polt was playing out of his mind. The thing about Polt and why I believe hes very suited to these weekend tournaments is that he adjusts his build to counter the standard meta. It doesnt look all that different form any other top terrans build but he just deviates from the norm when because he thinks outside the box and it catches players off guard. Building viking instead of medvac here, pushing out when knowing blink is coming there etc etc.

And we do a good job of outing him too because we get giddy and be like OMG DID U SEE THAT TELL UR FRIENDZ

But after awhile toss will figure out this guy does shit differently and he wont be catching them by surprise as much.

The other regions probably have an advantage , because they are more familiar with the WCS final's format that needs not only skill , but endurance as well .
Top 8 in Korea from looking at the lineup and recent performance in Proleague , GSL and other tournaments they have attended are : Protoss SKT Trio - Rain , Parting , Classic , CJ_hero , KT_Zest ; Zergs: SoulKey , Roro and the 8th player could very well be anyone from the other players left. The protoss players and SoulKey have looked extremely solid recently. I personally favour SoulKey to win this qualifier and Global final , even though his ZvZ hasn't really been tested recently , he just looks especially solid ... even in the games he loses/ties .

Can't believe people think WCS Korea might not be the hardest o_o. A lot of Code A groups will probably be better than the RO4 of WCS EU.

They are just increasing their post count, may as well write PMs to another. Korean pros playing at foreign tournaments often times just dont play to their usual skill level. May it be the jet lag, unease b/c of foreign environment or other stuff.
There is no need to even argue about which is the strongest region, just watch the games and the shown skill / build choice and execution, KR is by far the strongest.
