Great games trump everything. from apure quality of games point of view, this easily trumped anything there ever was. GSL gonna step up their game man. GSL barely getting started this year, I think this tournament was just a teaser as to the level of play we can expect from 2014. Calling it right now, SC2 gonna hit a golden age of amazingness this year. You should thank Polt for that. I'm not so hopeful for GSL tho. Why? because GSL is a protossfest, and polt is the only one who makes PvT an enjoyable to watch match up atm. not even maru can hold his ground anymore atm.

Would be awesome if Jaedong went through qualifiers and got to Katowice and won it all <3 ah - one can only dream. Still sad he didn't make it to the finals. We could have had the first TvZ of the tournament (?).
But all in all insanely good games (and production!). Watched every single one over the past three days :D

Terrans that I think are actually better overall players.
Also, this tournament was pretty freaking Protoss heavy too. How many did Polt have to fight? And yet the games were still incredible...even PvP is so much fun to watch these days. Bring on 2014, bitches!

But I think terran players will learn a lot from Polt's opening from this IEM. It is like how terrans started adapting to the hellion/banshee TvZ style shown by Mvp in another IEM. Plus with the nerfs to blink all-ins, we should see terrans entering the mid game on much more even terms. As we saw from this series (and the ones with Rain and Classic), when terrans enter the mid game on even terms, we get really good games where each player is trying to make plays.

Polt plays a very marauder heavy style (duh, it is Polt!), where he focuses on sniping Nexus and tech rather then the one big fight where he has to take out the AoE immediately with viking ghosts. Storms also are not as effective vs marauders. The downside to this style is he has a harder time vs zealots and especially zealot warpins since he has to kite a lot even if just defend his own base.

Ah, ok. That makes sense. But again, this isn't really hard/fancy just a little different. Opening might take some learning, but overall macro is still the same and you still want to get Vikings vs Colossus and Ghosts vs High Templar. Would be nice to see other Terrans try to see if they can have similar success.

Forcing the P all over defending snipes is proving to be a really strong strategy, though. Polt makes it look pretty easy at times.

Honestly the other Terrans need to step their game up. Polt could've had this series if he protected his mineral lines and maybe if he concentrated a bit more on unit to unit counters. Two of those games he had a ghost academy while hero had storm, but produced no ghosts. He was relying on brute force for a bit too long in those games. This event was really fucking solid though. The games were sexy almost all of them. Too bad GSL won't be anything like this. Code A T and Z need to step their fucking game up and get into S.

Not really. Polt lost because HerO is not the regular Protoss player. Not a passive player at all, HerO is the only player that uses warp prisms in every single game effectively. Plus Polt has been on the offensive in his past 4? PvT matches i think but this one HerO forces him to do both
|
Polt style very demanding though, with the way he split and position armies, avoid obs, methodically plan and time his troop moving in. He has shown some fatigue against HerO. I wish he would learn from Bomber or Mvp to play a simpler style against protosses to vary his play. I think only Maru can play like Polt.

You think the aggression was taxing Polt? I would say that polt is by far the quicker player, so he wasn't taxed more than he could handle. He was dealing with an equal in skill, but neglected crucial parts of game strategy ie his mineral lines and unit counters. He wasn't even forced to play "defensive" because he didn't actually defend anything in most games other than a couple zealot warp-ins in his base. With those two corrections and even a weaker army supply due to defensive turrets/army supply I think he could have done just fine vs hero. Maybe it was stylistic for the first game of hero with the warp prism, but there were many games and those were heros only effective strategies.

Polt just needed to be much better at handling storm on all fronts. Meaning dodging it, but also stopping storm drops. Hero was getting like 50 worker kills a game purely with his storm drops, and then Polt would have his army just sit there in storm after storm.
