The prize for this tournament is 12 BTC, which at the time of writing exchanges for over $10,000. This would be a large prizepool for your average tournament but it is the largest prizepool for a single showmatch in Starcraft 2 history.
This should have been put in the event poster too, and the event titles. I knew what bitcoin was, but still had no idea of its dollar worth. Thus, when I see the title or the poster, it doesn't occur to me that I'm looking at the largest showmatch in SC2 ever.

I don't like this at all. I think the prize distribution is pretty bad cuz its only 2 players. If ppl complain about the fact that u can't make money for living out of sc2 then this is why. Very good players that earn a lot get even more money like that. Thats very sad. Less known/ successful ppl have very low chance to get to that money.
The match is great, no doubt. But the prize is not distrubuted fairly and too high for a "2 player tournament". I don't like this.

It´s like this in all sports, will never change.

But eSport is still not there where other sports are. Still long way to go. So u can't compare them with eSports. The money here is not healthy for eSports. This money could have been used for a larger set of player, helping eSports by distributing the money much better!

It's still better than no money for eSports at all, don't get me wrong. But I am sure u got my point here.

You don't understand how sponsorship works.

This is a false dichotomy. That money would not go elsewhere. This is what this money was for and if this did not happen, that money would simply not be spent.

This is not a utopian democracy where there's a pool of funds that the community gets to decide how to spend. It does not work that way. Naniwa just won a bunch of money in what was basically a free win for him Swedish tournament. Major just won a bunch of money in a tournament that he breezed through just like every other Latin American event. Is any of that fair? No probably not, but that's where that money is and it's not magically going to distribute itself fairly somewhere else if that event does not happen.

These people wanted a high profile showmatch to promote the understanding and use of Bitcoin, that's what their money got them. That's it, end of story. That is the reality of how the business works.

needs to be a bo9 minimum. Sc2 series are just way too short with the nature of this style of competition set.

thats bs, sry but i mean the sponsors WANNA sponsor this sm, why they should wanna sponsor a tournament ?
no its absolute fine you seem to think that these players live of their pircemoney. but most of them live on their contracts, the monthly money they do, this is just a bonus (Like in sport too)

Will probably watch just for the good games, but, if anything, the prize money is off-putting. First, it's way too much money for a single match that can end in an hour. Second, I just can't shake the feeling that it's basically a few people who've invested in BTC (or wish they had) and are now pushing their BTC websites hoping to get some action from eSports... Coincidentally, another guy just makes a post suggesting people should donate BTCs to streamers instead of real money :D. Everyone wants that easy money...
