Hydras don't come out in time if herO goes for an earlier timing. And it is hard to tell which timing the Protoss will hit because they just throw down gates last minute and they warp in their units.

I missed the beginning of the game but saw DRG up 50 supply or so and looked like he had it. He needed to engage in a wide area.

true but the zealots were tanking the shots at that point as well. Infact, he wrapped in 5-6 zealots right as that fight was going on. I mean, the roaches ate full damage from the zealots and the immortals were left relatively unharmed until the zealots melted at which point 4-5 immortals with full hardened shields can chew that many roaches.
