what a complete bullshit about this "abusing the bo3 format". Really that stuff doesn't matter at all, his opponents can see all his games when they are not playing.. What gives a fuck really if it's a bo3 vs MMA and then a bo3 vs innovation instead of just a bo5 vs one of them. He has to vary just as much and his opponents have enough information to go on. He just plays well and his strategy decisions work out well, a combination of smart choices and a bit of luck but that's always the case in the buildorder game. He also played some fine standard games, if opponents didn't respect his endgame they would definately not be doing stuff like CC first on a smallish 2p map.
I don't consider it a great player from what i've seen yet but just calling it 'bo3 cheesing' is rediculously unfair.

yeah.... pacthzergs wasn't 10pooling terra to get 0 kill, and proceeds to win a gling/muta macro-game. Everyone saw this kid was insane since beginning. Patience just got the most lucky run ever, like that happen to random protoss cheesers sometimes. Really nothing to compare.

I do believe you but I tried to recap those dominating terrans. Can you prove your point with Names + Reigntime? That would be so awesome :D

1) they have no pressure, no expectation 2) their opponents are unsure of their style, habits while they have access to tons of replays 3) they go for risky, "gimmicky" builds which are great for best of 3s
OK comparing sOs's run at Blizzcon to this is just stupid, first of all sOs wasn't a newcomer, he's been around as a top Protoss since season1, and he ran through the top players all in bo5's. So it's not quite the same, and Patience is much more of a coinflip without the ability to transition out if it fails.
But I agree with your fist point, no pressure and no expectations help, but just having enough confidence and calmness to compete at your best against the monsters of sc2 is pretty impressive.

If he studied Innovation, proxy gating on a 2 player map is a relatively safe, calculated risk considering that Innovation seems to always 14cc after he fails a game.

I have zero sympathy for players who don't scout right. it's no different than flash getting punished for cc first in tvz in bw until he found a way to make it work. same deal here. not the same deal, innovation isn't famous for cc 1st-ing, he did it a few times and now he got cheesed blindly and lost, that's it. don't read too much into it. also it's not like a proxy gate can't be hidden well so that it's almost impossible to scout.
it most certainly is. doesn't matter if your famous for it or not you have to know what to do if you get rushed down. Blindly because you try and take shortcuts? No, you better have a plan. not much to read into it because he didn't scout, he just doesn't know how to defend. Lots of players cannot defend such a thing like flash in BW. Come on you know what's in the protoss roster. YOU have to expect the proxies no matter what. whether it be cannon rush, stargate/oracle, proxy gate. They've been doing it long enough that you got to stop taking shortcuts.

That's the point of the "most lucky run" ever, you're lucky enough to beat whoever is pit with you.

One thing appears a bit odd to me - it seems that consistently every unknown guy who comes out of nowhere and shows a great run in a tournament makes heavy use of proxy builds or other cheese and somehow it happens to work out.
Not saying this to depreciate, though. He displayed a lot of skill in this tournament. For example, game 1 vs Innovation required great decision making backed up with solid macro and micro which he showed by deciding to abandon his blink all-in and succesfuly transitioning into a macro game.
