What are the qualifications to be considered a Premier Tournament anyways?

i just finished watching the semifinals. Is there a reason why First choked so hard? he seemed really off his game the entire series. from the not spent chrono to the doom blink it all seemed like he wasn't quite on the top of his game. does anybody know?
